My youngest discovered my kinks collection (one for the road live) forgot how good they were!

Not listened to them for at least 15-20 years !

Local to me being Muswell Hill

Superb band, one of the best at telling stories about their surroundings in songs, in a very English fashion.
Genesis did similar but about a more fantastical England. Madness are not dissimilar, although a different style again.

for me falls in the category of "bands I didn't get at the time"
my older brother tried to educate me

as said Ray Davis's songwriting stands out as something very special

edit maybe not the best example but always enjoy this, a man who loves his music:

O.p.- Get yourself down the Clissold Arms and embrace the Kinks "lounge". 😯
Timothy Taylor LL used to be good there....

Love the Kinks. Got to see them back in 1980/81 when I was 13/14 (and they were young too).

Ace.

My kid did that with my 'greatest hits' CD When he was 5. Loves them. It's quite satisfying knowing he prefers them to some of the crap his pals listen to.
