As I recall, after rave was jungle techno, then jungle. About that time happy hardcore appealed more to the white ravers and jungle got dark and a bit stabby. Probs 95 onwards drum and bass started to appeal more to white people and garage got the jungle heads who were maturing...I recall going to jungle nights and being in the minority (and a little on edge even with "enhancements"

Then I found techno. Water. Hugs. Chewing gum..... 😀

For me it changed from jungle to drum 'n' bass, when it dropped the heavy use of ragga/ reggae samples and became a bit more "intelligent", especially tunes like Pulp Friction by Alex Reece (above) and the like.

Good grief, that Source Direct tune is proper filth. 🙂

Interesting how many producers had an alias for their less highbrow jump-up tunes. Goldie was Rufige Kru, 4 Hero were Tom & Jerry, Grooverider was IntaWarriors, Roni Size was Mask, and Photek put out a whole series of 10"s as The Truper.

My wife's just got back from "after work drinks" and admitted she actually bought a ticket off a tout to see leftfield do a Dj set under a huge fire breathing dragon. After left field there was a Dj called shy fx "I forgot I liked jungle, you'd have loved it"

Bah

Now on Sunday bukems playing along with other drum n bass and techno djs including Chris Liberator.... But it's $150 a ticket and I start a new job on Monday. 20 years ago I'd have done it. Damn.

Quoted wife "yeah it was like reggae and drum and bass, totally your thing"

Humph

I was only looking for Release the Bells, but there's this mix of nothing-but-Photek:

Also, Call and Response:

(which cropped up in Blade)
