No excuse, dead easy to make and very easy to wolf down, hot out of the oven. Mary Berry's fruit scone recipe on the BBC food website is pretty good. At fear of upsetting the purists, a few chopped apricots and cranberries are a great alternative (or addition) to the more traditional raisins/currants.
Clotted cream might be harder, but thick whipped double cream is an acceptable substitute in desperate circumstances such as yours. Presumably you can get cream?
TBH now I’m a man of leisure, I’m keeping well away from baking my own cakes 🙂

Your daughter is correct on both fronts. The cream is the fat. If you have bread with butter and jam, you put the butter on first, then the jam. Same logic for a scone.
Scones are not bread and cream is not butter. If you want to compare it with something else that is not the same, you put the jam on first on a Victoria sponge cake.

I'm a self confessed leading authority on the cream tea so the correct answers to these questions are:
- Sc-own: my wife's family are quite "proper" compared to my own but they reckon the "sc-own" pronunciation is "posh". Regardless of whether its posh or not, its what my parents taught me from a young age. Its correct.
- Jam first? Or (clotted!) cream? Theres various mentions in this thread of what sounds like inadequate cream. Talk of it coming in plastic pots, dipping scones into it etc. Sweet baby jebus... Right, lets get down to it. The clotted cream goes first. And it should be served in a little ceramic ramekin. And at no point should you need to consider rationing the cream over your scones (yes, plural - the cream tea should contain 2 scones) due to shitty cream portions relative to your scones. Then the jam goes on top. The jam is acceptable in those little glass jam jars but there needs to be 1 per scone. Thats it. No butter just jam and cream.
- Drinks: I see above someone with a Korev and a scone. You absolute monster. It needs to be a pot of tea in a china tea pot (not a stainless one - theres a time and a place). Not Earl Grey, not anything else weird. Certainly not a coffee-machiato-espessso-latte thing. A cup of normal tea. With milk.
- Location: it also needs to be in the garden of a tea shop with the sun shining and be sufficiently expensive to keep the plebs away to Greggs etc.

Cream first. If you go jam first it just disappears into the matrix of the scone. The cream forms a robust base to put the jam on.
Otherwise you are going to need to put butter first to provide a solid base and that is far from correct
