If VAR had existed that would have been a ‘clear and obvious error’ and overturned. We’d have won WC 86, Gazza’s tears wouldn’t have existed in 1990, Three Lions would never have been written……etc.

Yep and the England goal in '66 may have been adjudged to have not crossed the line. It goes on.

This is stupid. They have the biggest players you've seen and you are content to play in your own box. One slip, one mistake, one dive......

Denmark were robbed. England probably deserved to win but that was a poor way to go about it.

Booing the Danish anthem, diving for penalties - I’m so proud to be English.

England easily deserved that dodgy pen or no. Denmark's goal was from a dodgy free kick also.

England deserved to win, whatever anyone's thoughts on the play acting.

Denmark's finishing was rubbish to be fair.

I've watched this every two years for almost my whole life this is the first England final I've ever seen.

Denmark haven't really looked threatening for at least the last hour or so. They parked the bus and tried to hit England on the break, it didn't work. They deserve nowt.

I'm enjoying Neville's not so subtle dig at Boris Johnson there.

Agree grum, they were poor, or rather England dictated that really.

Denmark’s finishing was rubbish to be fair.

They didn't have enough chances to judge, did they?

England have done the 2-3-3 block up the middle of the park brilliantly for several games now. They rate the speed of the fullbacks to cope with the channel. The midfield 3 can act as hunter killers.

Italy will shred them mind. Far too canny

England vs Italy will definitely make for an exciting final.

Don’t see diving being an issue at all in the final 😬

Great dig at Johnson from Neville 'that is what a leader should be strong, honest.... Something this country has not had for the last few years'.

Disagree. Italy were poor last night and were very lucky. But I'm genuinely not sure I want England to win - the gammons will go wild.

Well, I shan’t be watching the final on ITV,

Yup commentary was pretty cringey this evening.

Yeah but Spain are about the only side that can out Italy Italy. England aren't in the same class. Although, Chielini and Bomucci are probably more vunerable to runs behind than Denmark.

It will be a totally different game though when Italy are getting pressed hard and playing against decent fast forwards. I'm not saying it will be easy but people saying there is a gulf in class are well wide of the mark imo.

Ok look. Stuff the gammons, the football hooligans. Football is more than them. I don't support a club but I've always watched England, from when I was a kid watching sat at my Dad's feet. I remember when my elderly Aunt were over during one (90?) and it was England v Germany in penalties and all conversation stopped and we were all on the edge of our seats; these are all our shared experiences and yes, there are arsehole fans, but there's no way I'm letting them take this away from me.

The boys done good, the boss done good, I'm going to enjoy it!

Absolutely agree. Not much between them. Veratti and Giorgio? The 2 cente mids are very, very good. I wonder if Southgate might start Henderson to try and contain them. Forwards are about the same - some quick, some poachers. Defence are polar opposite (old vs. young) but fairly equal.

Which is why I think the Italian 'gamecraft' will make the difference in what woukd be a balanced match.

Ah, England have underperformed for years now, it's been wrapped up as many things over the years, but just now they are as good as any of the top ten teams in terms of players and ability over 90 minutes, as others say, just a shame that they won with a bit of a dodgy penalty, would rather they won 4-0, but, you either get them or not, too late to moan about it, they deserved it over the 120 minutes, and semi finals are rarely great matches anyway.

The final is open for them, there really isn't a star man for Italy, defence are ageing, but they do have some strength in the same areas as England, will be interesting to see, if they turn up i'd say England should win this one.

As a Scot though, it has been a bit tiring listening to the outward positivity, but negative feel about England, the minute they beat Germany the final was an easy run for a team of this ability, yes you have to play the games, but on form and on paper it should be selling the positives and confidence, it's definitely not like the old days back in the 90s or 2000s!

Would hate to be the ref for sunday's game, there will be more diving going on from both sides than during the Olympics swimming!

I'm half Welsh, half English. That makes it easy to support Wales in the rugby and England in the footie 🙂

Woohooo! England! Well done!

Next is to play the mighty Italy. (somehow I like watching the cunning Italians play acting ... LOL!)
It will be very tough playing against Italy. They have not lost a match for the last 35 matches I think.

But as long as England score first, England will win.

I reckon it will be extra time with England winning by one goal.

As with this game, I'm confident in England, all except Pickford. I just don't trust him not to balls up at some point.

Other than that, GNev for prime minister.

2:1 sounds close and it was, we were a goal or a mistake away from a draw and pens. But to be fair on another day it could have been 4 or 5.

Schmeichel is a world class keeper - all time world class, along with his old man. He made 4 very good saves; the ones that Sterling missed early and late in the game were pure closing the angles and as my coach used to say 'make yourself big', it's no coincidence people keep hitting him square in the chest. The save from the header low down was a worldy, there was another decent save from a header and he saved a penalty.

Pickford had little really to do, and worries me he's slipping into flapsy hapsy mode. Dose him with valium for the next couple of days please.

I've said a few times that going deep in tournaments is a squad game and once it went to extra time we have a lot of depth in our squad. I wouldn't be disappointed with extra time on Sunday

And as they just said, if we can try to expose the Italians and get runners in behind instead of letting them face us up, we might get some joy.

Chiellini will try some dirty tricks on Sterling if he cannot keep up the pace with Sterling.

If Sterling can run the penalty box then that will be fun coz England will definitely get a penalty.

England will probably win by penalty too and it will be Chiellini's fault ... LOL!

I hope we get the German fella that reffed the Spain v. Italy game - he was the clear winner of that encounter. Please, please, please can we avoid a whistle-fest.

Italy are a different team without Spinazzola - this much is clear.

England remain strong - no injuries, no suspensions, now coming back from a goal behind too - even being pushed into Extra Time they haven't looked like they've been bent out of shape. One criticism i'd make is the substitutions in this game - if Foden had been brought on for Mount when Grealish came on i think they'd have won it in normal time.

Substitutions will be the make or break of the final - England edge it perhaps with the cards in hand, but they only work if you play them right.

Ultimately, you'd be a brave man to go all in on either, and i don't believe any of us would have thought we might say such a thing about the prospects of England playing Italy were this the evening of the 18th June.
