A thought just struck me (Ouch!)
We hear about the Middle East a lot (e.g. Iran Iraq), and then of course there's the Far East, Japan and China etc.
This implies there's a 'Near East' or maybe a 'Western East' does it not?
But I've never heard of that. So if there isn't one, how can the Middle East be in the middle?
That's my brain fried.
ooh ooh ooh, wikipedia.
Where's tj when you need a copy'n'paste answer?
Eastern Europe?
That would be Norwich.
Near East is correct and applies to Turkey, NE Africa etc. Honest.
wondered the same myself in the past PP.
(rusty's headset has arrived in the post today, are you still up for helping me sort mrsconsequences bike out and in return i'll grant you meaty pies and beer?)
Near East existed. It (the term, I mean) fell out of fashion in 20th century.
