The Super Nes, wasn't it...
Can we even consider the Neo-Geo in this one.... ❓
Probably.
Though it pains me as an ST owner to say it, in hindsight the best 16-bit platform was probably the Amiga.
SNES.
Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart, Secret of Mana etc.
Oh, what joy it was to be young ............
Price of games was a bit salty, mind.
Mega Drive for me
Megadrive, although I was always impressed by the Atari Lynx.
I had a SNES
Mario
Mario Kart
Zelda
SF2
Many happy hours playing Pilotwings
Gutted when I moved house - got it out the loft , borked!
If I was going to have one now, it would be a SNES. With Chrono Trigger and SFII. Back in the day though... I did love Sonic.
Had the MD and the SN and for me Nintendo took it much further with the various fx chip, games and graphics processor than Sega struggled to do with the 32x, Mega CD.
I mean Starfox, Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Streetfighter II, Super Star Wars, etc, etc 😯
Loved my MD too but for sheer pushing on with technology Nintendo really did wring out the good old SN.
Struggling to think of MD classics like I can Nintendo. The Immortal anyone?
Never got into Pilotwings 🙄
Amiga FTW
megadrive + roadrash
that is all
Good point succinctly put yunki lad
I played Mario on the SNES so much at one point that I started to hear the "ching" of collecting the coins even when I wasn't playing... 😯
The Amiga and ST weren't consoles though.
Fair point.
Everyone I knew that had a Megadrive always claimed it was better, but it was always Mario Kart at my place when we got together…
PC Engine
R-Type
SNES
Though my PC Engine GT was pretty rad
The PC Engine was actually an 8 bit console, but was almost a match for the megadrive in terms of graphics. I've still got a handheld one and very much enjoy Splatterhouse and PC Kid 2.
For me the ultimate 16 bit console is a Super Famicom or US SNES, running at 60hz through an RGB cable, giving a much clear picture, no screen borders and about 15% faster gameplay compared to a UK SNES.
Favourite games were Castlevania 4, Contra Spirits, Axeley, Super Street Fighter II, Dracula X, Area 88, Geoman Ninja and Super Mario 4.
Although Super Shinobi, Eswat, Steel Empire and Strider were all very good on the Megadrive
SNES + Super Smash TV
Happy times, happy times. Student nights in Leeds, cheap booze + pot noodles & hours of SSTV on a portable telly.
yunki +1 yesssss! 😀
Another + 1 for yunki, although I'd add speedball and super smash tv
chaos engine . . .
Snes for me.
Used to love beating my older brother playing Killer Instinct. Starwing was awesome too.
+1 what Gachet says about the American SN and Jap Super Famicom.
I went through 2 of the purple breeze blocks and the brother in law paid 300 sheets for a Jap SF 😯
Vastly superior experience, the official pal versions actually disgusted me back then.
+1 for SUPER Smash TV
I'm starting one of my favourite SNES games of all time tonight (this time with my boys watching)
Final Fantasy VI (otherwise known as Final Fantasy III).
Watched the intro last night and was instantly sucked in again!
I still have many of the SNES games and an ugly US SNES (although I'm playing FFVI on the PS3 as it's more convenient and was only £3.99!)

Never got into Pilotwings
Disgraceful!
🙂
Yeah it had to be an import SNES, though trying to swap between the two played havoc with one's SFII combo timings...
There're a surprising number of 16bit games that still stand up well today. SFII, Mario World, Mario Cart, Sonic, Chrono Trigger... I think 2d was pretty much nailed at that point. There's not much from the 8bit era that I'd actually play out of choice today, even stuff like Mario Bros feels decidedly dated. And don't get me started on how replaying Spectrum games crushes happy memories...

Really? I was playing Atic Atac only last week, and it's still ace.
I dug a few out (not Atic Atac to be fair) and I just found them horrendous! I used to love the Dizzy games but now they just enrage me 🙁
Zelda Link to the Past is still massive playable and enjoyable, and not in an ironic retro way.
SNES here.
SF2
Pilot wings
Bomberman
SF2 Turbo
Super SF2 the new challengers
Mario world
Yoyshi's island
NBA jam
Mario cart.
Megadrive and I still play sonic too 😀
Panasonic 3DO. Still got mine complete with the original Need for Speed.
3do was 32 bit bear. Had one of them too. It's version of Road Rash and Need 4 Speed were out of this world at the time. 🙂
Care to share your NFS top score 💡 🙂
I'd have known both of those facts 20 years ago!
Edit: about 17 years thinking about it...
I was only allowed proper computers (pc's) but the megadrive was the one to have at our school. Sonic was the game of choice.
Ataris were (wrongly) the games computer of choice but does anyone remember the ENDLESS disc swapping
Bear, 32bit is written on top of the 3DO... 🙄
SNES, still play it nowadays! NBA Jam is awesome! Fancy getting a copy of Zombies, borrowed it out years ago but never saw it again:(
Super Off-Road
Wow, Zombies Ate My b Neighbours 8)
Is it? Oh heck. It's been sat in cupboard for a long time!
Had both and SNES was the winner.
SF2 turbo
Mario kart
Secret of mana
Super tennis
Contra 3
Final fight
SNES was the greatest console of all time...............
SNES all the way
Some of the games still stand up today.
Yoshi's Island for instance - brilliant.
Out of all the iterations of Super Mario Kart, the original SNES one is still the best
3D0 had an early ARM processor in it, didn't it?
SNES
Mariokart, SF2, Mario World.
Spent far too long playing SF2 Turbo.
