Thanks Essel,I have never seen that Vic and Bob clip 😆 🤣 😂
Had a long walk out the woods last night when a puncture refused to repair, there was a bit of crunchy frost, but it still felt more damp/humid than anything else, didntneed a 'big'jacket.
I don't think we will get a hard winter of any sort*,those days are gone.
So now that I have jinxed the next 3 months of weather,I will revisit this thread in February 😉 😜

You’ve gone and done it now, haven’t you?

I shall inform the Daily Express that you’ve just ushered in the Arctic Blast/Beast from the East/Snowmageddon and that we’re all going to die

We had our first attempt at a frost the night before last. I’ve needed to be scraped off cars, but it wasn’t anywhere else

I cut the grass on Sunday as it’s growing still

ive just looked at BBC forecast for our area and it says there is a flicker of a chance of a snowflake in 2 weeks time 😄

Haven’t even had to scrape the car’s windows once yet so definitely not anywhere near winter here.

I've had to dig mine out of the snow once already this year. Admittedly my own fault, i should have checked how deep/wet/solid the snow on the drive was before i got the car out of the garage rather than after i'd stranded it in the snow...
Unfortunately, it's almost all melted now and back up to 2 degrees outside.

Well this is guaranteed to happen anyway as, just like when we did have the BfE, once again I'm off up to Glasgow for 3 weeks with work on Sunday. 😳

a bit south of Glasgow, in the South Lanarkshire heights 🙂 A gorgeous sunny morning, with a light frost. Current outside temp showing as 1.5 degrees. Was lovely at 0630 dog walk, peaceful and a bit of light mist

But all the yummy mummies and kid footy dads have been wearing their Canada Goose jackets for months. I admit that is has been a rather chilly 9 degrees at times 🙄 (the kids they're taking to school or watching play football are in shorts yet they're dressed for the artic 😊)

Minus 8c overnight here. Still 0c at the moment and I'm just about to head out on the bike.

I had one of those “this time last year” reminders on Google Photos the other day of heavy snow in the Peak District in late November.

So this is positively mild by comparison.

I was surprised as well, forgotten all about the snow this time last year.

It first came down during the NDCXL CX race at Markeaton Park, proper covering for the later afternoon races.🤣

I'm sure I saw a newspaper with a "Beast from the East" headline on the front page when I popped to the co-op yesterday

That's because when standing on the edge of an exposed pitch for 2+ hours and not moving around much even the slightest breeze becomes absolutely freezing! Been there, done that, glad he lost interest and I don't have to drive halfway across the county on a Sunday to freeze my arse off in a field.

My 15 year old daughter started coming with me to watch rugby last season and was a little puzzled by my insistence on her putting extra layers on. She complained during the 20 minute walk about being far too warm and sweaty. And then at some point in the second half started borrowing the gloves and hat that I'd secreted in my pockets ready for that moment. Regulars on the terraces know these things.

@pocpoc

I'm talking about under tens football where they only play 20 minutes each way. But I can imagine watching an 11 a side match in January/February ain't gonna be fun.

Distinctly chilly at home today, but I'm home alone, dialling in to a day long series of presentations keeping warm under the duvet.

Bloody taters on the lunchtime dog walk.

Feels colder than the temperature 'cos of the biting wind that's come in.

It's the relative humidity that makes it feel colder and more miserable than it actually is. I feel far more comfortable in minus 3 and dry than 4 degrees with drizzle.

You took some bleeding potatoes with you on your dog walk? You put tomato sauce on your chips on your dog walk? You saw some East European cars on your dog walk? Are your subtitles working correctly?

Its the dream combination of cold, wet and windy, isn't it?

Its like living in some kind of Dickensian dystopia here. Theres just a constant (bloody freezing) fog engulfing everything

It's been worse than that here, it's been like Lancashire.

Look east and you can see the faint glimmer of sunlight in the sky, but it never gets closer, it just taunts you like the bowl of crisps you're not allowed to touch before the inlaws arrive and you remain trapped in the permanent semi dark grey wetness of a Manchester day, consoled only by the firm knowledge its better than Preston.

The suburban hell of a 70s sitcom starring Ronnie Corbett?

In my view the 'jokes' about being tougher up north are more related to the fact that you can physiologically get more used to being in the cold. In my experience, working with thousands of teachers a year, we see more and more people who go from warm heated house, to warm heated car, to warm heated work place, to warm heated supermarket...
My team who are out most days barely feel the cold some days, both through good kit and this physiological change, good sleep, good food etc.
So yes, I too often see Himalayan levels of goose down on the high street - but some people genuinely seem to need it these days. 🙁

You need to move north to sunny leith then.  Been a lovely day here you soft southerner 😉

There are also people who are either just cold all the time regardless of temp, or others who like to feel toasty warm all the time (my sister-in-law). The most annoying ones I call Goldilocks as they have a narrow band of 25.87 - 26.13 deg C where they're happy and thankfully quiet. Below that they're in Arctic exploration gear and above it they keep shouting how they are melting  🤦‍♂️

Nearly all of these people don't actually move around apart from walking from house to car to office/pub/shops etc.

Beautiful.
With family who now live in Newton-le-Willows (don't let the name fool you, it sits between Warrington and St Helens, devoid of any redeeming features and half built on toxic glass industry spoil heaps), I have experienced this first-hand.

I went to school in Newton-Le-Willows and Rick Astley was in the year above me. My mates brother was in a band with him prior to his solo career

True story

Matts description of the place is actually quite generous

Big coat came out yesterday for me in the midlands (but I'm from south london).

Locals are still in shorts.

I hope the "levelling up" we are promised also applies to clothing standards.

We’ve had cold fog literally all day. Hasn’t cleared even slightly – felt freezing although only 4 degrees

That's high thermal contact for you...

My boiler's just broken so yep, that means it's winter.

I did find £3 in the pockets of the big coat though so that was good.

When I used to work outside all day, I'd be fine most days but there would be days where the cold would feel like it had got into your bones and took an age to get warmed up when you got home.
No amount of clothing seemed to make a difference. Have had similar long days on the bike in the winter.

But generally I think 'feeling' cold is a mental toughness thing. You can train yourself to be less affected by it (the cold shower thing is a good example of it).

Absolutely. Two years ago I was watching my idiot wife and her idiot friends traipsing over a snow-covered beach at Loch Morlich to go dipping in the icy water. Last year I was the idiot making a channel through the ice with the ice axe.

Three nights ago I had to put pyjamas on for the first time in my adult life. I shit thee nay. I've slept naked for 20 years except when I'm at the in-laws. Proper cold it was.
