Thanks very much everyone for all your advice on Thursday regarding laying a chipboard floor. I manage to get all the joints on a joist after all that fuss; mostly with some luck and moving the stagger around a bit. It is all nice and level and solid as a rock, which is a million miles from how it was when we bought the place. You would practically get sea sick walking across it before as it was >60mm out from one side to the other!!

Photos attached of my handy-work.

Top notch job fella - well done. Nice tight joints - looks the dog's bollox 8)

.

Leave a 10/12 mil gap round the edges next time though, won't you 😉

thanks. actually there is more or less 10mm gap around the edges, you just can't see it easily in the photos.
The floor has been so wonky since we bought the place and spent a long time with just joists and scaffold planks - I've been walking on the floor to day and putting up ceiling plasterboard with a big "pleased with my handywork" smile.

Indeed sam, nice job, I had the same thought about the gap at the sides but it seems you allowed for it anyway.

definitely not laminate going down! proabably some sort of engineered board with an oak veneer.

I know it's obvious from the thread title that this was going to be special interest only, and I didn't have to click on it. But aaaaaaargh. 😯 🙂

Haha...serves you right.

TBF to sam, he'd asked over the weekend for advice which he got from a number of people and he's just saying thanks.
