So, my 14 year old son wants to add a punch bag to his lockdown garage workouts.
I'm thinking of hanging one by a hook / mount from the garage roofs 8" X 1.75" joists spaced every 600mm, I'd fix the mount to a length of scaffold board and then heavy duty screw that to the joists to spread the load. Does that sound ok?
What kinda bag, gloves & filling (and how best to) should I buy for him?
I know nowt about this kinda thing so any STW experience appreciated.

I have a punchbag on my garage and decided to fix with a wall mount, rather than have a great big 70kg swinging bag fixed to the thing that holds the roof up. I couldn't advise on the kit though as I just bought mine from a local Facebook selling group - I got the bag and a pair of boxing gloves for £10 in almost new condition. I regularly see them on Freegle too and I can see why as I don't use mine that much really and have considered getting rid of it (although recently one of my daughters has started using it a bit during lockdown so glad I didn't).
My in-laws bought this for my son (10) to help with his taekwondo practice:

Seems good - came filled, with gloves, mounting and hand wraps. We have a swing in the garden so just added another mount onto that and it works, but it came with all the necessary mounting parts.

Yeah I do that when it's nice weather and the kids are playing outside lots. but I wouldn't use it as I fear it would break the climbing frame (it can still stand up to 11yr old girl punching - just)
