I went to these services about 5 years ago and it was so so. I hear it's got better, local produce etc.
I need a breakfast stop off northbound on the M6.

Good but predictably expensive - £4 for a bacon roll.

If you go a bit further on to Jct 40 there's a Cumbrian produce farmers market type supermarket with a cafe upstairs. Just past the petrol station by the mini roundabout on the way into Penrith. Decent scrambled eggs there. 😀

I'm here right now.. Never had the breakfast but the evening meals are not much to write home about... I'd go to truck haven at J35 on M6.. Much better there, or carry on up to Penrith truck stop.. Better food and far more reasonable on the pocket.

No help as far as the OP is concerned but, I'd rather starve to death than use motorway services for anything other using the toilets!
Very poor VFM, a truckstop's a miles better bet.

Cumbrian produce farmers market type supermarket
- that'll be Cranstons. Good stuff, and a lot of it is made in their factory out the back.

Everyone raves about Tebay being the best motorway services ever, independent, home cooked/farm-fresh food etc but I find it massively overpriced and distinctly average. It's also often rammed and the service isn't much to get excited about.

I'd rather go a few miles off the motorway and find a good cafe but then there's the time aspect of it - how far off the motorway are you willing to go to get cheaper food vs just running in, grabbing an overpriced bacon sarnie and getting on the move again...

I've found them to be about as good as it gets for a motorway service station.

That however, is not to say it's good. More that the rest are awful.

Surprised that those Truck havens get a recommendation, I found them to be truly awful. Must stick my head into this Cranstons place sometime soon.

Alternatively if you come off at J40 on M6 and head for Scotch Corner, 5 mins along the road is the Lima Cafe. Very good food but limited parking.

Try this

There is a "truck stop" behind the BP just south of Carlisle (can't remember the junction number). It was fine when I was there but not as good as when it was just the front rooms of a house knocked together.

I was under whelmed by the breakfast at Tebay. Been wondering about the Llama Karma Kafe with its Cumbrian long necked sheep and that.
