Just been looking at tops on Cyclesurgery website and saw the above. Now, I don't know about you but I wouldn't dream of wearing it as it's not a team top (no harm in them, as such), it's a badge of honour and must be earned. What sort of twerp would wear one of these?? ๐Ÿ™„

I think its an unspoken rule not to wear tops such as the TdF jerseys, gold or pink jerseys or National Champs jerseys unless you have actually earned them

a similar sort of person to those that wear replica King of the Mountains Jerseys while they haul their beer gut (slowly) up the local hillock, I would imagine

Agreed, but I don't really wear team tops either. Club colours or something plain.

Is it really any different than wearing a footie top?

I don't wear team tops either as they seem to say, to me, anyway, 'I'm an awesome cyclist, me'............................and, er, I'm not. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wearing a football top is akin to wearing a Pro-Team jersey and can be seen as an expression of support. This obviously doesn't apply to the TDF yellow jersey though, does it? Wearing that is like going around with a replica of the FA Cup. Odd.

What Davros said.

Is it then an expression of support for the TdF generally perhaps?

Rapha are selling british national champ tops. If you're not Kristian House, you're asking to be gobbed on.

Precicely what I was trying to get across - it just shows an affinity to a certain sport/event/team/person or whatever.

Do they get into fights with supporters of the MTB Worlds? ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, but also with people who wear Love Marmite - Hate Jams shirts while riding Bromptons. ๐Ÿ˜‰

When I rode the Tour of Flanders tourist a couple of years ago I must have passed at least 6 World Champions - some in gut barging I think to be honest.

Riding a bike in team kit is akin to adults playing football in the full kit of the team they support.

Rapha are selling REPLICA British national champ tops... Replica kit differs slightly from the proper team issue stuff. It's usually quite subtle, a change of font or the sponsors names removed. Admittedly, to most people it's usually good enough to pass for the real thing.

I never even wear my own club kit unless I'm racing. It has the added downside of being easy to identify if I'm ever involved in a road rage incident.

Indeed it is. Although I hadn't been aware that it was fotoshopped ? ๐Ÿ˜•

interesting one this, obviously an issue for roadies, as team kit is very prevalent.

i'm a footy fan (sorry) but would NEVER wear a team shirt myself - many obviously do.

but on my road bike.... i dunno. I have club shirts to wear in events, and a couple of Rock Racing team shirts (sorry again) but trying to think if i've any other "team" kit - don't think so. Defo wouldn't wear Postal/Disco/Astana etc, but might wear Euskadi, dunno, talking bollox now.

But to the OP, the TdF coloured jerseys are a no no (esp polka dot in my case !)

Having just said all that, I've a disco maglia rosa, but it IS signed by Salvodelli. Worn it twice.

G.

No, they're the real thing. If you notice they aren't in the usual wool, just like the tops Kristian has been wearing recently. They had to order a large number, and unless he wears a different one every day, it makes sense to sell some.

polka dot jersey stands out which helps you get noticed by car drivers / pedestrians etc when you're commuting, and they were selling them cheap ๐Ÿ™‚
