I do need to ride more, but I have this thing called work which tends to bring me down somewhat.

Christ almighty. People view the world through a lense shaped by their past experiences. It's not a new concept.

Similarly, people tend to choose the familiar over the unknown.

If the customer has always had good business relationships in the past with female sumo wrestlers covered in Yakuza tattoos & wearing burberry, and you send a clean cut bloke in a shirt and suit, you're probably not going to get what you want. Regardless of whether the person you're dealing with is prejudiced or not, they're dealing with the unknown, which is uncomfortable. So they will choose the more comfortable option.

To me, getting a tattoo is placing yourself in an "out" group. The majority of people don't have them, so you're increasing the chance of being seen as an unknown quanity. Simple as that.

After going to the swimming pool in Cardiff, I'm not entirely sure that's true! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I thought you'd been unemployed this past week.

Count yourselves lucky I'm not allowed to talk about work, otherwise you'd have more moaning off me than you could ever imagine.. I'd probably be banned just for moaning ๐Ÿ™‚

Very succinctly put, Tron.

And Moley, Cardiff is not an accurate cross section of the UK. I'd expect more tattoo wearers in that area due to a higher average incidence of unemployment and lower social standards.

I must tell my Auntie that - she lives in Cardiff and will be delighted to have been pigeon-holed in such a way.

So, I come to you (Shibboleth) for an interview. It's winter so I am wearing trousers, shirt and a jacket. I pass all the tests with flying colours and you employ me. All your clients love my telephone manner, you never miss a meeting, your letters have never been typed so well, every scrap of paper is filed (in the right place) etc etc.

Six months later, it's summer. I come to work in a dress and jacket. It's quite warm in the afternoon so I take my jacket off. BLOODY HELL! TWO TATTOOS!

What are you going to do? Your clients love me and I can clearly do my job. For six months you held me in high regard, now, suddenly, according to your rating system, I am "stoopid".

Thankfully it would be within your trial period, so no redundancy. Kerching! ๐Ÿ˜‰

A six month trial period? Gosh, you must be a really bad judge of character to need such a long time.

Actually, I've been following this thread and I am, seriously now, dying to know what it is that you do. What is your business?

I am finding it quite interesting how the debate is developing. Shibboleth says that in his opinion people who get tattoos are stoopid (sic) and the rest of the world tells him he's wrong, to which the natural defence is [s]to support your argument with logic and reason[/s] to say people who get tattoos are stupid. Repeat until you get bored.

Now, Shibboleth, I too work as a communications professional as a [s]Teacher[/s] Communication Facilitator and after much searching on Google I have failed to find the "stick your fingers in your ears and go lalalalalal!" debating method. It appears to be a most effective method of promoting oneself as an intellectual, as a rational person and as a valuable member of society. I think it would be something interesting to offer my [s]students[/s] clients. If you could give me some more information,I'd be very grateful.
