Hi Folks,

Won't go into the back story, but if my mum (Glasgow) who is flying out to see us this weekend (Switzerland) was to take a spare 8 cell, 15v 5.2AH, battery for my old spider eyes trout-light - would she be OK?

It seems to be well under the w/h guidance that I can find for FAA or EU equivalent (100w/h is normal, this comes in at 78), but the only issue I can see is that it's not obviously 'for' anything that my mum would be carrying.

Any thoughts or expert guidance?

I'd imagine it would be treated like a power pack?

No one's going to look that closely at the connections.

Worst case - can you afford to lose it if she has to bin it to get through security?

Should be fine, when working in TV we would ship entire suitcases of hand and hold baggage packed with lithium batteries.

Some even come as a single battery that unclips into two useless halves to get arround the capacity rule.

Just gone through this a couple of times, for 24 hour races. For BA at least there used to be a max power rating, and you had to contact their safety team for an approval. This seems to have changed in last few weeks though - as they are saying you do not need to contact their safety team for approval:

Not a problem in hand luggage IME - I've had batteries removed from hold luggage though (fortunately on the way home and I was too knackered to care)

Hi Folks, great stuff, that's very helpful. Seems it will be fine for the hand baggage, just take it out with iPad etc.

The laugh will be mum, she's not a great 'winger' of things, so can imagine her blurting our something inappropriate if they ask her what its for. "its not for a bomb!" *nervous laugh* 🤦‍♂️

As long as it's labelled clearly what power it is should be fine
