We currently live in Hong Kong. Moved out here 12 months ago.

We like (not love) Hong Kong. I dislike my job intensely but it pays really well.

I have a job offer in Sydney. Great job, but less money. We could save hard in Hong Kong and come back home with a nice nest egg. Or we could move to Sydney and enjoy life and work a bit more, but not build quite such a nest egg and not be in a position to come home so soon. Indeed, whilst we might not want to settle in Hong Kong in the long term, we might want to settle in Australia.

Anybody lived in Sydney and can comment on life over there? Long shot I guess that anybody would have lived in both Hong Kong and Sydney and can compare the 2?

We really can't decide. This isn't one of those lame 'make the decision for me' posts. I would be interested in some perspectives. Might be a certain angle that we haven't considered that might make our decision easier to position.

I only visit both for business, but would say that the following makes sense

HK - work hard, all hours, socialise a lot. Live in a shoebox.
Sydney -work a balanced lifestyle, socialise a lot, live somewhere nicer and spend time commuting. Cost of living high, quality of life better.

So, HK for money, Sydney for quality of life. And better riding. And beaches. And great food.

Sydney would be my pick. Assuming Melbourne isn't available 😉

I found Sydney boring after 2 years. Depends what you are into I suppose. Looks a great place to raise a family.

Oh, and forgot to add, if you were pondering children, then Sydney really takes the lead. I love HK, spend lots of time there, but could never see myself bringing a family up there. I could in Sydney.
