[#11150744]

Just got some Isopropanol Alcohol in a cut on my thumb.

Trying to think if I've had worse.

Have you?

My ex's, sister's, ex-boyfriend (stay with me) worked in a kitchen in a pub and once managed to cut the tips of three fingers off in one go. He was cutting lemons at the time. That must have smarted.

I once spilled some glacial acetic acid (vinegar, but as concentrated as it can possibly be) on my hand the day after a somewhat abrasive rock climbing session.

I said rude words and always remembered to wear gloves when handling it again.

In a moment of monumental stupidity a few years back I sprayed isopropyl alcohol up through a brake caliper whilst looking down through it to make sure it was going where I wanted.

It didn't. It went in my eyes. It stung. Bigly.

Alcohol hand gel at work. Have to keep on using it

Smashing a heparin ampule is good as well. Cuts don't clot!

Dichloromethane smarts a bit.

Especially if the cut was the result of cracking an NMR tube.

Not sure if it's synesthesia or just the solvent but it turns out you can "see" pain!

For context, if you've not worked in a lab or had the privilege of Nitromors in the days before it turned from paint stripper to expensive goo, DCM smarts a bit if you get it on your skin, let alone under it!

I can't think of anything worse. I was still going to sites a few weeks ago and using Alcohol bases gels to clean my hands, small cut on my palm was making me wince.

In my youth I had 2 jobs for a bit, worked in a warehouse during the day and a bar at night.

One Friday morning I sliced my palm open on a cardboard box, didn’t bleed a huge amount but it was a big thick paper cut about 3 inches long. I forgot about it after a bit, until I was at work at night and someone ordered tequila slammers and I managed to get tequila, lime juice and salt in it.

That stung a bit.

Not quite the same, but I was once doing at bit of Yellow Pages with my girlfriend (now wife) after chopping some rather strong chillies. When the hit hit, it HIT!

I have no idea how chillies stay around so long. I can unconsciously wipe me eye hours after chopping and many hand washes and still.. AHHHHHHGGGGHHHH! 😂

^^^ Yep, I also once put contacts in the morning after another chilli chopping event. And the only way I could get the contacts out was by putting my bloody fingers back in there :-O

Not sure about cuts, but being a 24/7 galaxy brain I managed to get some of the dust from these in my eye a few weeks back.

The next 30 minutes were... upleasant.

Sodium Metabisulfite. In the meat trade its called 'Madam'
Comes as power, mix with water and used as a preservative.
Prevents sausages like cut square from discolouring.
Also was the original ingrediant to peach paper, which before putting cut meat in the chill overnight, you place the paper on top and the next morning the meat is still fresh and bright red.
Its basic function is to stop the cut surface from drying.

Any cuts you have and in a shop handling cut bones and you always get lots of little cuts and scrapes from the bones which usually get infected.
Be brave and stick the cuts into the madam bucket and that cleans better than antiseptic.

Paper cuts sticg like its on fire, I've yet to get it in a deeper cut.

Dunno what it would be like in a cut, but I used to wear contacts that required a two-part sterilisation process, (and at this point I’m pretty sure some will know exactly where I’m going); one morning I forgot to put the neutralising liquid in the container and put a lens straight in my eye. That. Hurt. A. Lot. I couldn’t get the lens out, my eye closed up like a fist, and it was about twenty minutes before I could get the lens out.
It was a mistake I never made again. The liquid had hydrogen peroxide in, an organic bleach, so great stuff for cleaning a wound, but it might smart a bit...
Actually, I did have a cut get infected, so I put some lens sterilisation fluid on it, and it fizzed quite a lot! Cleaned the cut up, but didn’t actually sting much.

For pain.... back in my art school days .... alternating between working with chicken wire than popping into the print room to check on the progress of a plate that was in the acid bath

Not painful but...  purple dylon can give you some interesting reminders of cuts for a while

That old 2 stage contact lense cleaning solution where the first stage is hydrogen peroxide-based and the other is the neutraliser.

Well, don't forget to neutralise.

Hydrogen peroxide in the eye smarts. A lot.

Or the good, old wisdom tooth abscess. That smarts. A lot.

Edit. Neither are cuts but hurt

I cut my finger to the bone sharpening a kitchen knife and a couple of weeks later, after it had almost healed, I burst it open again hammering a nail. So I would say a hammer, a hammer is the worst thing to get in a cut.

I feel your pain OP (literally).

Had a student nurse wipe down my open wound with alcohol gel prior to stitching, they thought I was faking my howls of pain until they checked and realised she'd picked up the wrong bottle.

I re-felted the shed last week and thought nothing more of it until I squeezed a lemon through my fingers. Pain by a thousand micro-nicks.

I'll second Hydrogen Peroxide in the eye as being quite painful.

Early morning, forgotten to neutralise lenses, pick up first and stuff in eye, roll around on floor screaming silently (didn't want anyone else to wake up and realise how stupid I was) before clawing myself up to the sink throwing water into my face hoping some got in beyond an eyelid involuntarily clamped tightly closed.
Removing the lens was not easy.

Going back to the isopropanol stinging, I worked with that stuff a lot, and often had cuts or splits in the skin on my fingers, due to handling paper all the time, and yes, it stings a bit, but nowhere close to hydrogen peroxide in the eye!

What about Tea Tree Oil and mint shower gel on the gentleman's sausage. That's pretty bad.

I find that quite enjoyable normally, but using that stuff immediately after man-scaping is a mistake.

The worst thing I can think of is alum, like those shaving block thingies.
It's a bit zingy but bearable using it on your face after a small shaving mishap, but I used it to try and calm down quite a big cut on my finger and it stung a lot, to the point where my legs started doing a sort of reflex action jig all on their own, while I pulled faces and tried not to swear.

My least favourite thing to get in a cut is commercial dishwasher detergent.

It's a fairly strong mix of Sodium or Potassium Hydroxide and it stings like a proper B@#$%rd.

Given that the insides of most commercial dishwashers seem to be made of old razor blades, I get to experience it quite often😡

A paper cut, ok ish but...worked for HSE inputting details of accidents, has input decapitations, all sorts but the very worst one was definitely a paper cut
Typist had some paper stuck in a typewriter (yes, that long ago)...she eventually yanked it out and it went across her eye, causing a paper cut right across her eyeball...yuck !

I have palmar psoriasis on both hands, which cracks and bleeds like micro cuts. Yes I'm loving the alcohol disinfectant gel. I've had the virus already though, so sod the rest.
