As above, what level do most people have their rears set at? A couple of db below the fronts? Dow this depend on the size ofthe speakers? They are small b&w surounds as are the 2 fronts and the centre.

do you get a choice?

mine doesn't. Panasonic Bluray with 5.1 sound, TBH not as good for sound
as the LG DVD 5.1 system that it replaced. Not as flexible

Yeah I can tinker with the levels in my amp (have separate br player).
Just wondered if I had it set up right.

ah, I see, separate amp.

as far as I can tell, they should be much quieter than the front speakers, should only really notice them when there's a genuine surround or "its behind you" moment.

But if you can tinker with them, tinker away. See what sounds right to you

Depends where you will be sitting when you use them. I have a kicking back watching films setting and another for right up at the screen playing BF3.

you set them to the same level and the processor sorts the rest , they will only play when there is rear information in the film at the producers intended level so will not be distracting
