Yes, some of the toffee-nosed types did help eventually but the bloke had obviously been in the village a long time, as had his parents. So, in very cynical mode, perhaps they thought it would be in their own self-serving interests to portray themselves as 'delightful types'. You know, God forbid, in order to maintain premium property prices.
