[#12313512]

I live in a Bett design home.

I know these were pretty standard houses across Scotland in the 1970's. Yet Google reveals very little.

Anyone got any insight/links/?

I think I've seen these houses in just about every Scottish town!

But if it's the 70's influence you seek, have you tried looking into the five new towns? There must be some info there?

NB - I think BBC Scotland/Kirsty Wark did a series recently about urban change in Scotland. Might be worth checking iPlayer.

Exactly - they're incredibly common house designs. There's a good few different designs. Lots of people talk about them as 'Bett' or 'Betts brothers' designs, but so little information.
I'm just intrigued.

(And I know it's the equivalent of asking about the details of Morris Marina's, but meh...)

My brother had a Morris Marina coupe with vinyl roof. It needed an oil top up on the journey between home and uni. Like this one. (Sorry I can't help on the houses).

Quick Google suggests you may need to make a trip to Dundee to find out more.

I'm sure I've seen similar houses all over, and not just Scotland. Probably a lot of imitators if it was popular.

Has Scotland moved on from the 1970's now?

I haven't been up there since the first lockdown but it would be nice to see the change.

What I do know is that Bett brothers were a building firm - but also produced this book of designs that many other builders then used/licenced.
This is why in so many Scottish towns there's these designs that look so familiar.

WCA - I'm still in flares and bright shirt...

The only bit of Scottish house design I don’t like is the obsession with internal wood (pine) panelling.

Given that the properties were constructed during the 1970s, the following
regulations and British Standards were applicable.
– The Building Regulations 1965
– The Building Regulations 1976 (coming into operation on 31st January,
1977)
– CP 112: Part 2: 1971, ‘The Structural Use of Timber’
– CP 112: Part 3: 1973, ‘The Structural Use of Timber: Trussed Rafters
for Roofs of Dwellings’, September
– CP 111: Part 2: 1970, ‘Structural Recommendations for Loadbearing
Walls’
– CP 121: Part 1: 1973, ‘Brick and Block Masonry’
– Code of Practice for Walling.

Your Mum's got nice legs, but even they don't let her off for dressing you in red corduroy lederhosen

My dad had a maroon 1.3 Marina saloon GLD19N
Then a 1.6 estate NUD575M in harvest gold. He had to respray a wing.
And carpets in the lounge as per the pic above.
No idea about the houses though.
As you were...

My dad had a British Racing Green Marina which didn't live up to the colour, and then they hit a sheep near Shrewsbury which made it a bit shorter on one side.

all sheep are like that - its how they're able to walk about on steep hillsides

First field car I had on the farm was a Morris Marina with an 8 track and Mr T air freshener, it was a pig to get in reverse for a 10 year old and then the prop shaft fell off half way down the “long field”.
