Morning all, welcome back.

Looking to booked 2 or 3 nights away with Mrs Lunge in December. We're in The West Midlands and I don't really want to spend 4 hours on the M6 to go the The Lakes which is where we usually go so we're thinking of either heading south to The Cotswolds or north to The Peaks. Just want a couple of relaxing day, some time outside and ideally some good food and drink.

Requirements are:
Nice hotel or house, not to small as there is a chance the weather will be rubbish so we won't get out walking
Nice walks close by
Close ish to a nice little town, ideally with good pubs for post-exercise beers
Err, that's it.

Having lived in both...

Cotswolds - I would recommend Cirencester. Nice town, good pubs and restaurants (and some rubbish ones, obvs), selection of places to stay, walks out into the Cotswolds from the door.

Peaks - I would recommend Whaley Bridge. Nice village, good pubs and restaurants (and some rubbish ones, obvs), selection of places to stay, walks out into the Peaks from the door.

Cotswolds? Broadway is ver nice with some good walks. Check out the Dormy House Hotel for posh digs.

I know of Domry House, might be an option that.

is a nice spot. Even in awful weather, a bracing yomp along the ridge (its never muddy on the top of the hills as too close to the rock) and then back into the bar in front of the fire.

If weather is nice, lovely walk into Malvern and back. Or go to Ledbury.
Lots of walking nearby and some excellent pubs to break up the walk.

is double-dipped in history. River and hill walking nearby.

I used to farm on the estate near https://www.cotswoldinn.co.uk/en-gb but havent been back for a while. Lovely walks along the River Windrush though. Day trips to the classic cotswold towns. Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Norton, Stow on the wold, Bourton on the Water etc.

Belongs to a very good friend of mine, easy walk to Castle Combe, with walks along the valley from Castle Combe to Ford, nice pubs, Bath isn’t too far away.
