But importantly I'm pleased the schools round here are closed as I'm reading Treasure Island to my 8 yr old grandson and he might have been tempted to hack his leg off to go as Long John Silver for the dressing up day.

Currently re-reading whilst waiting for something else* to be delivered. Had good reviews, but I find it hard to be interested in any of the characters.

Another one for La Belle Sauvage by Pullman. Slightly underwhelmed compared with how good the first book of his previous trilogy was.

I didn't see the BBC TV adaptation, which is probably just as well, since I cannot imagine that it would have been a patch on Dibdin's writing. It's ironic that an Englishman was the author of the greatest italian detective fiction series. Beautiful writing with great plotting, some lovely sly dark humour, and a truly original hero/anti-hero detective.

This is ace, it’s not just pictures it has narrative about age/denomination/geographic interests/routes to and from other churches (pilgrim routes) and some local knowledge. Covers the U.K. and I’ve done Hampshire already.
I've read Operation Mincemeat and Agent Zig Zag as well Captain and agree that he's great at writing these types of book. I love the way that you can feel his own incredulity about the stories he's telling while you yourself and shaking your head in disbelief at what is going on.A world where nothing is real and absolutely no one is certain of anything.

Finished reading this to monkey jnr last night. Sure, it's old skool and the dialogue is not quite in keeping with today's ragamuffins, but I put my own spin on all that stuff when reading aloud anyway.
