I wonder how seriously he's taking this in 'real life'
Her online/offline persona don't interact so how would anyone know.
good work there bearnecessities.. good work
It's all a matter of personal detachment, well for me it is anyway.
A direct face to face interaction will always have more 'real life' feel than a trolling comment on the EDL Facebook page.
Face to face = real life factor 100
Work email = 72
STW = 48
Yahoo comments = -247
They all involve real life, but some have more impact than others.
My name is Piemonster, my perception of the world may vary to yours.
Edited to revalue STW
Her online/offline persona don't interact so how would anyone know.
We are all wired in now, maybe there is no offline anymore
Ooowwwwooooooowwoooo cue tetchy matrix music
When you came blundering into a previous rugby thread making all sorts of sweeping negative generalisations about the welsh. Thats known as racism. Edited to say this is in response to Zokes.
Still waitng for answers from Mark and nealglover
You seem to be taken this too seriously, maybe you should walk away.
Well, it didn't keep me awake and once i close this it won't bother me. See, the thing is i know you havevthe ultimate control as a mod, but within that i can choose when to walk away.. An example is where you were posting some racist comments a while back, it annoyed me, but only when i read them. Once i closed down, it didn't bother me that there was a forum out there with a racist mod. I know there are plenty more, but they don't bother me either.

only it very obviously did bother you.. as you have plainly stated here..
This is proved by the fact that you still hold a grudge about it and are raising it again now.. so yes, I would say it bothered you a fair bit.. 😀
When i am on here and only then.
I don't hold a grudge, there is no one to hold a grudge against. I brought it up as an example
Of course i know they are flesh and blood. But they are not real beyond this forum as they have no effect outside of it.
I had a chat with a psychologist at work about this once, and alas I can't remember the name he gave this particular thought process (dissociative anonymity springs to mind, but I'm not sure about that).
Anyway, it's the same thought process that allows some people act like dicks when they get behind the wheel of a car and behave in a manner that they never would if they met those same people if they were walking rather than driving.
Of course psychologists will have a name for it.

Ah the food thread from months ago but look you seem to have come back, as predicted, and now you posting about something you'd forgot about but clearly haven't.
This is the point and bearnecessaties has given a good example. It's a form of communication which means you are interacting with people, that means some people can be offended by what you post. This makes it real no matter how you deal with it.
Your own example being you took huge offensive to what I call Chinese food, I was honest and open that I didn't think it was offensive but yet clearly it was to some. Because some people on here said they found it offensive I agreed to stop using it here, I'll continue to use it amongst those who I know don't find it offensive.
Can you see now?
Complicated stuff this wwwdotpsychology isn't it?
S'gonna keep psychology bods and philosophers scratching their head for blinkin' aeons I reckon..
You're all just voices in my head, be quiet your giving me a headache.
Well, it's either you or that red wine. Probably you, hard to blame you of course with you not being real.....but I found a way.
Here you go zokes:
The only difference being if we were all in a pub, and STR came out with that line, I suspect there would have been a queue of WGs friends ready to flatten him. It's all very well making offensive comments from behind your keyboard, but just remember it is a real person on the end of them. In this instance, that real person happens to be a friend of mine, hence why I might appear a little narked.
Care to try and explain why posting the above doesn't make you a massive hypocrite? 🙂
When you came blundering into a previous rugby thread making all sorts of sweeping negative generalisations about the welsh. That's known as racism.
As you do so about the English, does that make you racist?
As an Englishman who spent ten years watching the 6N in North Wales, I can assure you that on certain days there were definite no-go areas for anyone not wearing red. That and the despicable behaviour by the Welsh fans at the first Eng vs Wal football match in a long time, with jeering by the Welsh supporters through the minute's silence for Ken Bigley.
Not sure which is more pathetic, Fred's vanity ranty shit or this navel gazing shit.
Not worth pondering any further on the matter, so I'm going for a ride instead.
Not worth pondering any further on the matter, so I'm going for a ride instead.
A real ride?
The difference is Zokes I've never made racist comments about the english just had impassind debates with the likes of wrecker about the relatives merits of dan cole and adam jones or whatever.
Wow, that vanity site is perhaps the saddest thing I've seen on line in a long time.
What a lonely fella.
A real ride?
State of my back at the moment, I'll only manage a virtual one on YouTube
Sigh
Care to try and explain why posting the above doesn't make you a massive hypocrite?
Well, clearly I chose to take offense. I could (should) have taken piggy's view and just laughed at him instead.
The difference is Zokes I've never made racist comments about the english just had impassind debates with the likes of wrecker about the relatives merits of dan cole and adam jones or whatever.
If they've upset you so much, why don't you just post them up, then I can see whether I either still stand by them, or can apologise? It seems to have been quite a long time ago.
You do seem to hate all things about English rugby though, with the main reason for this being that they're English. That, sir, is by your own definition, racism.
Still waitng for answers from Mark and nealglover
What's the question ?
Captain, that sounds like good advice and it's not raining here as predicted.
Personally I've got much bigger things to worry about than whether or not someone somewhere might be slightly offended by something I've said or heard.
Zokes, excuse me quoting you as this is not meant to be a personal comment, but I think this one sentence sums a lot up. Some reflection (hopefully while on a ride) about exactly what this kind of sentiment Is saying may not go amiss? It would make the "is it real" debate redundant.
One of the oddities about this thread is the page and a half of regular and unmoderated use of swear words (shit, prick, dick, nob etc) including mods and Mark. I have never understood what the swearing policy on here is and what is/is not expected from forumites?
morning all -- seems the knicker twisters have arrived, --- like real life, there are those whose views and values you respect, and there are the polar opposite-- just like on here .....so it is real...
What's the question ?
You'll have to wait until he reboots and downloads the latest posts.
The difference is Zokes I've never made racist comments about the english just had impassind debates with the likes of wrecker about the relatives merits of dan cole and adam jones or whatever.
To be fair, I don't take a_a's rugby comments as anti English, just anti English rugby (huge difference). He lives in England as far as I can tell, and teaches English kids so I don't think he's a racialist.
Zokes, excuse me quoting you as this is not meant to be a personal comment, but I think this one sentence sums a lot up.
In that really, there are many many bigger things to worry about in life than what someone who you'll never meet said on an internet forum?
Or did you have some other hidden meaning?
To be fair, I don't take a_a's rugby comments as anti English, just anti English rugby (huge difference).
In more recent threads yes. In the one he seems to think I've been grossly racist, I'd say it was a case of pot and kettle. Living in Wales for ten years changed my views of a certain portion of that populace, and I have to say not for the better. Sport brings out the worst in a lot of people however, regardless of colour, creed, or nationality.
Ah the food thread from months ago but look you seem to have come back, as predicted, and now you posting about something you'd forgot about but clearly haven't.
I'm not sure what prediction you are referring to. You may have me cofused with someone else.
I hadn't orgooten about it, it doesn't bother me outside of here.
This is the point and bearnecessaties has given a good example. It's a form of communication which means you are interacting with people, that means some people can be offended by what you post. This makes it real no matter how you deal with it.
For some people perhaps. I know they can be offeneded and are. But ultimately they can chose not to read offensive posts. I know some people have real lives which interact with this forum so they cannot walk away. That makes it real. But actually for me, and a few others, it makes i not real, precisely because of how we deal with it.
Your own example being you took huge offensive to what I call Chinese food, I was honest and open that I didn't think it was offensive but yet clearly it was to some. Because some people on here said they found it offensive I agreed to stop using it here, I'll continue to use it amongst those who I know don't find it offensive.
Huge? I didn't take huge offence. At best, i thought you were a bit silly and probably a bit racist, which i don't really think is appropriate for a mod. Especially as this is real world for the magazine. However, i see that you have separeted our behaviour onnhere from that off here. Surely you were advocating behaing on heremonly as you would in real life, if oth are equal and inseparable, then the converse should be true. Stop using it out there, if the people you use it with don't find it offensive, then they may be racist too. There are probably lots of groups who don't think the 'N' word is offensive. It doesn't make it ok to use it when ou are amongst them. I'm glad that the discussion helped ou to realise it could be offensive in here. It would be nice ifyou transferred that knowledge to your real life too.
What's the question ?
Rather then lose context, it is at the end of page 3, where we generally agree.
You do seem to hate all things about English rugby though, with the main reason for this being that they're English. That, sir, is by your own definition, racism.
How I "seem" to a racist does not concern me. You've posted above your views on the welsh. I am now going to flounce off and enjoy my day.
"Out there"/"In here". Interesting. I wonder how many see this "place" as a refuge from the world where they can behave as their real selves and find restraint still exists from the Moderator police? How much of "real" life depends on actually adopting a "persona"? Who is the "real" you?
How I "seem" to a racist does not concern me.
At last, something we can agree. How you 'seem' on here concerns me even less than how I 'seem', especially to you.
Interesting though that although you seem to have taken such offense at what I seemed to have said quite some time ago that you can't bring it to my attention directly. If you could, as I said before, I can now either apologise for it or stand by it with further justification if required. Seems a bit strange really.
I am you and what I see is me, apparently.
If what we see is just "Fred's" persona, adopted to engage the rest of us in an online game of tactics and strategy from an "off-world" location, what does that tell us about his "real" self?
Has he engineered the situation right from the start to produce this gaming scenario? Are we his pawns in this puppeteering of the mods?
Is he playing Chess, or "Go"?
Who is Number 1?
The point we are discussing, that my actions need not affect their real world unless they choose to have it so.
Wrong. Suppose you write "DrJ is a nob", and a potential employer of mine is reading and thinks he won't hire me as people think I'm a nob. Given that my forum name (and yours) do a poor job of concealing my identity, your actions impacted my real life world. And will impact yours when I show up at your door looking for retribution.
The internet is real - as the courts are increasingly recognising.
Yup, and when the worlds interact then this is real. I try to make sure that doesn't happen because you are all a bunch of strangers who behave in all kinds of unpredictable qnd undesireable ways that I really need to be able to control the impact you have on my real life
I'm not sure what Fred is up to. Do people read it other than through this thread? Does anyone other than fred post on it?
Exactly DrJ take for example if someone was to call me a racist, that could be enough for professional body to call me in for an investigation and suspending my qualification thus meaning I'm no longer employed, I lose my house, my wife and kids suffer too. And all because someone thinks I'm racist for calling some food a name.
Not to worry it's not real and he'd forgotten about it until he sits at his keyboard, make you wonder how he finds the threads and the site if he forgets though.
all kinds of unpredictable qnd undesireable ways that I really need to be able to control the impact you have on my real life
And other people need to control the impact they have on other peoples lives.
This is an Internet discussion forum where people who've never met can discuss things in their free time under the protection of anonymity.
However, there is no such protection, What you write in here is writen by YOU, not ZodTheDestroyer, or whatever other name you dream up. It was written by physical real world you sitting on your physical real world sofa on your physical real world keyboard.
Why do you keep claiming i've forgotten things?
Do potential employers know you as Drac? If you are concerned that they may read this and it would influence you job chances, then you should probably be less insistent on using the word 'chinky' too or at least notnbroadcastbthe fact that you do. Some employers might not be so keen on that either.
If using this forum threatens your job, livelihood and children inthis way, best not to use it at alll i reckon.

You can dress it up however you like, but what is said on here, which is an irreverent chat forum loosely associated with mountain biking, quite rightly carries very little weight anywhere. It even carries less weight than if I'd found you on facebook or wrote you an email. Both of which are also ultimately meaningless.
Do potential employers know you as Drac? If you are concerned that they may read this and it would influence you job chances, then you should probably be less insistent on using the word 'chinky
Of course - but that's the point, isn't it? Your claim is that he can say what he wants with no comeback.
On the other side, this can be a good influence - if a load of people type in that they bought stuff from "Drac" and got a good deal, maybe I will be more likely to buy his used Mondeo.
Why do you keep claiming i've forgotten things?
Because you claimed you forget.
Do potential employers know you as Drac?
It's not too hard to find out people's real names.
then you should probably be less insistent on using the word 'chinky' too or at least notnbroadcastbthe fact that you do.
I'm confident in the fact it's not racist to knickname food that but we've discussed this already.
If using this forum threatens your job, livelihood and children inthis way, best not to use it at alll i reckon.
But it's not real life so why would it?
You can dress it up however you like, but what is said on here, which is an irreverent chat forum loosely associated with mountain biking, quite rightly carries very little weight anywhere.
Well, you can think that if you want, but as I mentioned before, the courts are starting to take a different view. Try posting your plans to start a riot at Thatcher's funeral.
