I think we might need to get this properly valued but I know there's some watch fanciers on here, thought someone might know more and also people might just be interested...

There's no hallmarks or anything. In tiny tiny letters at the bottom of the dial it says "swiss made". Best guess is that it's plated steel- there's a couple of bits where it's scratched and I think you can see a greyer surface underneath but, I'm not certain. I wasn't able to shift the back so no clues there.

It runs well and seems to keep good time, he wore it as an everyday watch for a long time so it has some scratches (it literally had paint on the face from where he kept it on when decorating). He had a good career with Mcvities (made the queen's wedding cake, worked out how to manufacture the jaffa cake) but not the sort that you get something super expensive so I'd assume it's relatively low in the range.

You need to get the back off according to this article about similar watches, which is an interesting read.

Nice little thing, similar to one I bought off the main watch thread a couple of months ago. I paid £300 for that as a rough guide for you but it's in good nick.

Look up the n+1 watch thread, there are people on there who really know their stuff.

That alone was worth a watch. Sounds an interesting bloke.

All Jaffacakes are automatic IIRC.

No, everyone thinks they're manual but they're taxed as automatic.
