So I have a do that looks like a soup kitchen's pan scourer if I don't cake on some kind of product, but then that leaves it looking all Teddy Boy greaser. Everyone (i.e. the wife, my mum, old ladies at the bus stop) says I should grow it but whenever I try it gets to a point where the frizz is so uncontrollable I'm ashamed to leave the house and I end up getting it cut short again. It's not so curly that the dream of longer hair is not unattainable though, as it grows the weight kind of pulls the curls straight. Surely, in an age where space rockets are reusable, where bikes have batteries and where we can grow ears on mouses backs, there must be some product available to control my kind of hair that doesn't leave it looking so oily? Any ideas that aren't Soul Glo?

3 options...

Shoulderlength, or

grade 4ish with a bit of gelled spikiness or

grade 2-3.

Anything else is just wasted effort!

Shoulder length is ok if you've got the youth (or lack of grey) to pull it off.

Sadly I am more badger in hair colour these days so have moved onto the grade 2 option via the spiky option. At least it's no maintenance.

Oh, and growing it is a pain but it suddenly passes a point of critical length. Perseverance will be required.

Curly haired gal here. Firstly I'd consider your shampoo - when did you last change it? Could it be too harsh? You may need to condition it once a week. Do you use a brush? A hairdryer? Try not to. To keep it in some sort of order I highly recommend macadamia oil.

This is a really light spray, rub it in your hands then run through hair using fingers:

This one is heavier but you may find your hair becomes a tad greasier:

Curly hair doesn't like hot weather. Fact. Embrace it nevertheless.

Good luck!

Shave it or embrace the full Carlos Valderama; as for gentleman's hair colour - as you age the term is 'distinguished'.

My bonce is too big to shave without me looking like a bobblehead, so that's not an option. Hair colour is not a concern either, I've got a bit of the old "salt and pepper" going on and I'm fine with that. I'll give the macadamia nut oil stuff a go, thanks for that CG.

Grow it long! Wear a hat til it’s grown past the pesky stage.

Alternatively, less is more when it comes to hair products!

Just embrace it and count yourself lucky that you have the option to grow it.

I had the same problem.

Solved, as per fmp, by going bald in my early 20s.
