Bought a phone spares or repairs with 'new screen but battery problem' some time ago. Turned out it was passcode locked, duff screen, simcard tray stuck, back screen tabs broken, camera lens missing. A litany of uselessness.
Seller didn't take kindly to my request for a return and refund, said would 'find passcode' at best and claimed they were selling it 'as a favour' to someone in their family and one reason they didn't wish to refund was partly because it had cost them money already! Twas 'only' not many quid but tbh was poorly described and I feel rightly like the fall guy at the end of the line. Further request for refund resulted in emails not returned.
I get kind of exhausted with this level of arsery but would you be bothered with the aggro of pursuing it, even (especially) if broke like me? I've since put it on ebay at a loss but already had it returned once. Gah! Hate to be put off using classifieds as on the whole has been mostly very positive experience. Think will do random act of kindness today to restore my faith in humanity 😐
Name and shame if nothing else so we all now who it is for future reference.
Well being as you paid by PayPal goods service (as recommended on every for sale page you click on and in the site guidance, but you knew that already) just open a dispute via Paypal - job done.
It's on Orange/EE
This is being sold on a spares only,no guaranteed basis ..
I think £30 posted is a fair price.
Raise a PayPal dispute
If it's been sold as spares only as Drac suggests then it's your fault entirely. My understanding when you sell something as spares you're not saying it even works, just that some parts would work as donors.
I didn't suggest anything. I posted that to add context to the OPs post.
then it's your fault entirely.
That's that settled then! Now off to sell my Cannondale Caad3 bike, will advertise as 'spares as repairs, with a 'new Headshok fitted - but mechanic who fitted the new headshok advised of bottom bracket fault'
Buyers' fault entirely if they subsequently get denied a refund because they found (at further cost) that the 'new' Headshok was actually knacked. Fair?
Onwards...and to others, not into the naming and shaming shenanigans tbh, just wondered whether I was being unreasonable. (Writes off to experience)
*Edit i did contact seller saying preferred to sort it out like a gent rather than go straight to Paypal. That prompted quite the opposite effect. OK, it's going on Ebay with full disclosure for a small overall loss. Can't be arsed. Will increase karma if nothing else. Thnks for suggestions folks.

If you've ebayed it etc I assume you're out of the paypal claim window?
For £30 'spares or repair' I'd just suck it up.
This is being sold on a spares only,no guaranteed basis
is that the sellers description? Thats a buyers-punt at best. If I bought a car on ^ basis I'd half expect it to be a money pit/lemon and gamble on it being a lucky find.
If i was buying something for spares or repair i would make enquiries prior to purchasing
😀 Reedspeed? What an arse; obviously not short of a bob or two since he's buying a new carbon 29er.
For the sake of thirty quid, he should have just done the right thing and refunded you.
Too many arseholes on the classifieds. It should be forum members only with a minimum of 100 posts and 6 months membership. Might bring a bit more of a "community" feel to the place, instead of people just trying to make a quick buck.
I sold one on here ages ago and the guy claimed the speaker didn't work. I took it back and it worked fine so refunded him but didn't refund his pnp as I believed he'd simply changed his mind. Reset the phone and it still had his password on it. Contacted him and he said tough titties, shoulda refunded my pnp. That's when 4s' were still £125. There are some tools out there
OK, now gone to the great Fleabay, sold with full disclosure. Hopefully no more boomerang injuries.
If i was buying something for spares or repair i would make enquiries prior to purchasing
To clarify - I did enquire further as to condition via email before purchase, (see above, and resultant hypothetical borked forks scenario) so wasn't quite so much of a gamble in my tiny trusting mind.
Onwards, I do have half a cigar left, and I still get the girl. Lesson learned 🙂
Wyswig who was it?
not into the naming and shaming shenanigans tbh
Reedspeed? What an arse
Now there's respect for the OP's request
Can't remember tbh
Donate to a mobile phone collecting charity for extra karma and write it off.
That said, RealMan's brake sale to me still riles me 3 years on for his poor attitude and outright refusal to refund a pair of misdescribed, faulty brakes. So I know the feeling.
Pursue them to the end of the earth. It's not financially viable or really worthwhile, but it might make them think twice before they screw the next dude, help us work towards herd immunity...
"spares and repairs" doesn't mean you can sell something that's not as described

You really need to let that go, the poor bloke was hounded enough at the time by the STW mob without you having a pop 3 years down the line.
I'm still waiting for "logical" to raise his head again. Unless anyone knows him
Typically when I've bought something spare or repairs the faults have been listed meticulously so the buyer knows exactly what is wrong/going on.
Sounds like both had a boo boo here, the seller for not inspecting the product to formulate a proper advert, and the seller for not investigating the product before purchase.

If that's all was posted in the ad, I would of been asking what exactly is up with the phone first.
"spares and repairs" doesn't mean you can sell something that's not as described
If i sold a car as spares and repairs I cannot remove major parts from it prior to the sale.
IMHO it was not spares or repairs as it was a scrap phone missing parts and the missing parts should have been listed
"If i sold a car as spares and repairs I cannot remove major parts from it prior to the sale."
why not ..... i have and do .....and i buy them as such as well on occasion.
How ever i wouldnt try and post my car spares to a blind buyer.
My expectation having bought something spares or repairs would be expectant of something maybe salvagable for parts --- ocasioanlly maybe 1/10 IME you get a you suck and its just a minor repair......
Spares or repairs is pretty clear to me that its probably not gonna work.
I think we all agree its not going to work from spares and repairs but I do expect all parts to be there UNLESS clearly stated
For car say a failed MOT er that may or may not run but I still expect the fuel pump to be on it UNLESS stated. the later is a part scrapped car with some parts still available it is not "repairable" as it has missing bits
and there in lies peoples different expectations.

Poor bloke? Really? Is that the same 'poor bloke' that behaved very badly and refused to make good in the face of overwhelming opinion? Not sure he's the poor bloke. I wonder if that would be the opinion if it were you he shafted?
As title states I have an iPhone 32gb 4s in black,Just had a new back & screen fitted to it,it apparentley is a battery related issue ,so I've decided against repairing it & gone another route .It's on Orange/EE

Contact me via email in my profile ,for pix etc.
That appears to be the full ad description which doesnt really correlate to the issues the OP states the phone suffers from.
I'd be pee'd off with it to as it does appear to be misrepresented.
Said it before but this forum needs a Heros and Villains section so feedback can be left to help prevent stuff like this happening.
Other forums manage it,
This is being sold on a spares only,no guaranteed basis ..
Doesn't mention repairs.
Nor the missing parts and give a misleading reason for the issue and suggesting this could fix it.
The very best you can call it is incomplete the very worst misleading or deceitful
I lean towards the later but YMMV
The 'pix' might have given a clue to it's condition.
£30 for a broken iPhone?
Of course it's spares only.
The guy admits he has no idea what's actually wrong with it but thinks there might be a battery problem.
Op, you took a gamble, didn't work, move on.
Poor bloke? Really? Is that the same 'poor bloke' that behaved very badly and refused to make good in the face of overwhelming opinion? Not sure he's the poor bloke. I wonder if that would be the opinion if it were you he shafted?
Yes, all he had to do to stop the 'hounding' was the right thing, but he chose not to. Scoundrel in my eyes and always will be.
Sorry OP, you have my sympathies too and I wont buy from him either.

What happened?
Bought much stuff from Neil/Fruit recently Luke?
OP, did you say you have put it on eBay already, and had it returned once already? Is the phone cursed, or did they find it didn't meet their expectations?

Some brakes were sold, they were misdescribed, there was lot's of fuss/outrage, he was outed on here, he refused to do anything about it, I got bored then.
What happened?

Part of the subsequent meme was that the photo of the brakes wasn't - it was a photo of brakes "like" the ones Realman was selling.

Hmmm!
Hahahahahahah. Yip. Lots of Zulus.

Have stw'ers stopped jumping on FS ads with haste/without thinking?
Been quite a few times that an item seems to sell within too short a time without much questions being asked
