So basically do your squats slowly?

Or, on the bike, singlespeed?

(he is jacked up to the eyeballs and eats over 8000 calories a day).

Is being jacked enough though?

Surely he needs to be tanned and juicy too?

Not necessarily slowly. Just, no rest at the top, keep it moving, and keep the set going for between 30 to 60 seconds. Rep count is ultimately immaterial. IIRC there is quite a bit of research highlighting that length of time as the most productive for bulk.

The above is typical strongman training BTW. On stuff like tyre flips or carry events, think about how long they go for. Lots of bulk works for them.

Single shot strength sports like olympic and powerlifting drop to sub 5 reps because they're not into bulk for the sake of bulk. Power to weight of the lifter is much more important.

Masses of overlap between the two though.

Going to failure generally is bad for recovery times. Without significantly increasing any strength or growth benefits. Extraordinarily useful for geared up lifters though, as their recovery abilities go through the roof hence can tolerate much more of that sort of thing. Short and sweet wins for natural lifters.

Poor Davina looks terrible in that piccy!

I think you're mistaking thin with unhealthy. She's 50 and looks like she trains and diets well, or did I miss something? Anorexic that is not.

I would say she looks terrible in that picture. If that’s healthy looking then I never want to look healthy. She looks ill

Hence why my 90kg bulked up son was not able to lift as much as his 54kg female cousin* - quite a lesson for the 19yr old boyo

*married to powerlifting gym owner had nothing to do with it 🤔

Thats interesting. So if I am trying to both lift and ride bikes I should keep it at 98% effort to save myself for riding.
