Not seen a thread about this latest storm yet, but there’s a red storm warning across Wales and the Bristol Channel. The BBC Points West weather chap was saying that drivers should not even think about using the M5 tonight into tomorrow morning, in particular with vans and high-sided vehicles. To do so would be really foolhardy. Rain isn’t the problem like with Bert, it’s the wind, which could be gusting up to 90mph!
I’ve checked Windy, and the strongest winds are just off the Irish coast coming in towards Limerick, and I’ve seen 78mph as the highest, but that could easily change.
Take it easy and look after yourselves folks.

Coastal communities are going to see very serious winds, 50mph gusting to 80s.
People don't realise that 50 mph can knock you off your feet. 80mph will pin you to the floor

Years ago I was driving to Cornwall in a storm, very windy but ok. Then it got worse and driving became impossible. Spent the night in the car for fear of being blown off the road
Just had a message from a friend in the NW who says it's lashing it down and howling a gale at theirs.
Here (nr Manchester) isn't too bad at the moment; I went for a ride earlier and although it was dry weather at the time, the roads were soaking wet in places and the wind was definitely picking up. One of those annoying days where it looks quite still but then you try and ride a bike and find you're doing 10mph on the flat and it's really quite hard work!

A bit breezy in Southampton. The Velux windows in the kitchen make a strange noise when it is windy, a bit like someone snoring. I assume it is pressure difference dragging air through the seals, either that or MrsWCAs cold is making her snore really loudly
A fair bit gusty here in the south of Ireland. Had to pick up the wheelie bins and re secure them already. Batten down the hatches. Seems to be a few power cuts around too.
Not to be too bad here, gusts topping out at 56mph which is pretty normal, glad I'm not down in the red zone though.
Daughter got a red weather warning on her phone in Exeter which looks to me like its in an amber warning area but I assume after the criticism they didn't make enough fuss about Bert they are being extra careful....
Neighbour 2 doors down hasn’t made any effort to tether down their trampoline that Bert manage to flip a short while back.
Wife says if they haven’t sorted it by 11 then she’s going out there with the girls from next door to dismantle it 🙂

It would be better if the alert system had a less dramatic mode for things that aren't actually emergencies, for when like this there's a few hours' notice.

Drove from Brecon to Cardiff at 10pm, was absolutely lashing it down and windy as hell. Took it cautiously so made it through fine. unlike a lot of others. Now at home and it's very windy but not overly concerning. Did have two of the Warnings on my phone though, it really does sound like The Purge!
While I was watching the news from BBC Bristol, there was a weird noise and the presenter and the weather bloke both received government weather warnings on camera! First time I’ve heard one, and they were both rather startled by it. I’m about forty miles inland, but it’s blowing a fair bit at the moment, and my weather app is saying gusts up to nearly 60mph tomorrow.
As someone who lives on the west coast of Scotland I'm just amused at southern softies getting worried about a stiff breeze. That said, if it transpires to be a moderate hooley, you will have my sympathy. It can be hard to lever new wheelie bins from your council, and trampolines can get blown into neighbours Audis, grazing the paintwork.......

Right now it’s blowing hard. Nothing unusual but it’s pretty noisy, the internet has gone and the house is creaking. I’m in an exposed position (we can see Lundy so there is not much to break a SW gale) and having grown up here I thought I knew what strong winds felt like. Until I experienced a cat 4 hurricane. Those softy Europeans getting worried about winds that barely exceed double digits…
It’s getting pretty serious here. I’m about 15 miles east of north Bristol with nothing in front of our house for about 3miles and the roof is making banging, groaning and grinding sounds. Even with the car parked right in front of the garage door, during a large gust we’re seeing an inward bend of around 15cm and there are already trees down in the village.
The anemometer in the side of the house is already at 96kph and we’re not even into the worst of it yet!
No wind or rain at the moment in Rammy. Must be in the eye of the storm?
Maybe later in the morning for an increase in wind and rain?
I got woken by the wind at about 3.30am.
Very quiet and still now but my Rain Radar app shows a big chunk of weather moving in, probably coming along in the next hour.
Perfect day for scattering my Mam's ashes on the top of the North York Moors eh? :/
It's been organised for months to get the family all together and have a meal afterwards. Reckon we'll end up wearing her. Maybe it her way of saying she's not ready to leave the bottom of the wardrobe yet lol!

I'm in an amber area of the south west but well inland and it's not too bad here so far. However, a lot of the householders round here leave their various recycling receptacles permanently out front of the house, so good luck sorting them out, they're skittering all over the road!

The BBC Wales reporter was in Penarth but it's basically East facing coastline, which isn't going to deliver as much drama in a Westerly storm. It looked oddly flat behind him.
Even here on the Solent gusts are peaking at over 50knots (60+mph / 100+kph).
That's not soft nor is it anything like what's bashing Wales/West coast.
Just had to put the lid back on the compost bin here in Ilkeston. Added a brick to pin it down.
Only a yellow warning here, and generally looks unpleasant out the window. Hope it's not as bad as forecast for those of you further west, especially with the rain warning in south Wales.

Heathrow Met Office are reporting 30mph winds with 50mph gusts.
Should be an interesting experience for those that are flying!
We were forecast snow above 250m but it has come to nowt and it's just wet instead. I'm supposed to be selecting and chopping down a Xmas tree later this morning so I suspect it'll be full waterproofs.

Two ridge tiles off so far. The same ones I lost ten years or so ago. I need to improve my technique for fixing them or replace the lot with a dry ridge system or whatever.
