Went on the ride. 18.30-20.00 a bit damp. 20.00-now absolutely horrendous rain and wind

Had a few in the pub watching it lash down before the 2 mine home dash.

Leatt onesie/dirtsuit was incredible - to the point where I even washed the bike when I got back in a howling gale/rainstorm

Largs was high 20s wind speed and hitting the 50s for gusts today. I'd love to say that was noteworthy but that's actually fairly normal. No bloody idea why, reckon it's the geography and we live in the middle of a massive Bernoulli tube.

Anyway, batten down the trampolines and anchor your sex ponds.

Yeh the wind is far worse than any rain here ATM, supposed to get the super heavy rain coming this evening still.

Just been out rescuing my wives plastic greenhouse thing after it nearly blew off with her in it 🤣

I heard all this wailing, and eventually realised what it was. She was inside holding it down and saying her glasses had been knocked off and couldn't see. Should have taken the cover off before now obviously, but we were thinking more of the rain than the wind. It had masses of rocks and bricks holding it down around the valance, but the guy lines pulled off and there's obviously limits to what it can take. Anyway mission accomplished as it seems pretty stable bare poled and her seedlings are inside.

No trees down in our immediate vicinity which is nice!

I’ve got a shiny new MTB and I want to go ride it… 🤔

I'm intrigued what you got?

(I'm guessing an Epic)

we have taken in the roads.

IT was bone dry till 10am - the rains just hit.

Village was without power this morning  - Unusually we were not without power which was new to me.  given we are all overhead lines.

Still just a bit blustery north of Aberdeen, just waiting for the rain to start. I cut the grass for hopefully the last time this year yesterday which picked up all the leaves. Grass is now covered again 🙄

Hopefully you rescued your wife too?

Falkirk, raining constantly since before I woke at 6-ish but nothing outstandingly heavy. Yeah it's windy and has been since yesterday but nothing exceptional - main difference is it's blowing from the E rather than the usual SW direction, so harder to gauge exactly how bad it is (less used to hearing it hitting that side of the house/garden).

More concerned about my sister who's in the red alert zone north of Dundee, but is OK so far.

Light breeze, light rain and overcast at the moment in Rammy. Newspaper is suggesting worse weather to turn up late afternoon. Just seems like a normal miserable day to me.

My sister is still expecting to drive up to Dufftown at the weekend (Saturday). Think that's realistic?

In case anyone watching this thread doesn't already have the app/website, then I can highly recommend Windguru for watching the track and development of winds, not just here, but all around the globe. I, for one, find it fascinating.
https://www.windguru.cz/map/?lat=54.54203145513944&lon=-1.521505119729568&zoom=4.961182676943929

EDIT. Just to say I have been watching the app for months I it is extremely rare to see red colours over land (bare in mind this is low level weatherstation data) so I reckon East Scotland are definitely feeling it at the mo.

@13thfloormonk

Whilst the storm might be over by then there is likely to be some aftermath to deal. I’d make other plans if I were her. NB the red warning has been extended to include Perth and Dundee.

Well we've got a few trees down across roads now from FB reports. I can only assume it'll get worse as it's blowing a hooley, but still no biblical rain yet.

We were supposed to be visiting my wife's cousin and new baby in Auchterader on Saturday, but cancelled as that's basically a full traverse if the red zone for us.

Whilst I broadly agree - Windguru forecasts are derived from the American GFS model which this year have not coped with the weird jet stream well at all and often been wildly inaccurate. As an alternative, I suggest Windy - basically the same as wind guru but easier to toggle between the models. I've found the European model to be broadly more accurate, at least on the Scottish West coast.

Sounds like lower Brechin is going to be evacuated due to fears of the river over flowing it's defenses. People being warned...

There's a clip on the BBC live feed from Peterhead and the storm looks really severe already. I can't imagine what it is going to be like when it hits with full force (which I believe will coincide with high tide).

It's getting pretty gusty here at my work in Forres. Gonna be an interesting drive over the hill home to Aberlour this afternoon.

Stay safe everyone

Windy has added the UKV (Met Office) now, which is usually pretty good too.

Yep, I was a bit overdressed on my afternoon bike ride. However it may be "just a breeze" but it's still a noticeable headwind. Like riding in treacle.

Not a breath of wind down here in galloway and currently dry, hope the east coast escapes the worst of it to come.

Looks like the North Pennines, N York Dales and Cheviots are going to take a hammering too now as they seem to be looking at worse rain totals as the forecast is developing. Fingers crossed for the Dales bike centre (once again).

We managed a 35km ride this morning up Glen Affric. Breezy, but dry.

Got back to the van at 2pm, and at 2.03pm the heavens opened....

It's odd - there's huge gusts up high and the noise from the ridges/trees is there, but we have been snuggled in the forest away from most of it. Even the campsite is wet but calm.

Once more I'm reminded of nature's ability to provide and help us cope with extremes of weather.

Rescue helicopter of some flavour just flew down the River Don near us in Aberdeenshire, presumably checking river levels and extent of current flooding (which is thankfully not too bad).  Rain and wind been battering since about 10:00, but it's just getting going.

Looks like big areas of Aberdeenshire and elsewhere are already without powerScreenshot 2023-10-19 160621

It could be out of date, or spread across an entire postcode, when only part of it is affected perhaps?  Not sure.

@scotroutes - It was flying at about 50m above the river, so clearly doing whatever it could to stay low.  Strong flying on a day like this!

There've been a few power cuts locally (short lived I think), but so far we've only had a few flickers of the lights. Fingers crossed it stays on. Had the heating on a lot just incase we do get a outage at some point

Powers out all around us. Our streets the only one not had a power cut it seems. Power was out in lots of village and most f the villages west appear to be out.

The rescue chopper was flying up the Dee for a while.out the front of us. Dunno if it's surveying or training
