We've rented a cottage up there in a week or so and I'd like some suggestions on 'family' stuff to do nearby and also is there any decent riding thereabouts? I'm probably taking the cross bike.
Cheers,
Sparkle

Whitby isn't far which is a nice place to go for the day, Dalby isn't far, never been so can't comment if its suitable for cx, flamingo land in pickering, eden camp at pickering too.

Plenty of small coves for the kids to explore, you might find some fossils at Port Mulgrave. Go to Grosmont for a ride to Pickering on the steam train, stopping off at 'Aidensfield' (Goathland)
Some decent riding to be had from Scaling Dam which isn't far from Staithes, just take an O/S map & go.
Don't go to Skinningrove. It's a dump.
