It's now too dark at 6am to see any litter so I think that's it for now.

I've tried previously taping a torch to the litter picker but you need the ambient light to be able to see the litter in order to walk over and grab it rather than spotting it by torchlight. I'll still be litter picking stuff by hand and dumping it in the nearest bin but there won't be anymore updates for awhile.

Thanks to anyone who has picked litter up ย having been inspired by this thread. See you again in the ย Spring.

(The end of this morning's walk - half a bag and a repatriated trolley)

Surely the answer is to fit Bert with 360 degree lighting?

.......and we're back in business!

Its light enough again at 6am to see litter on Berts morning walks.

Lovely weather this morning, lots of snowdrops and daffodils in the local park, spring has definitely sprung! Anyone else joining me clearing away the winter months collections of Monster, Redbull, ย MaccyD's and Costa litter?

One of my favourite local paths suffers from high tide so a lot of litter gets swept on to it with the tidal flow. I've already done one litter pick of the year and will carry on once it builds up after the tides. I also go along over the summer with a battery powered hedge clipper to keep the grass and reeds at bay otherwise mid summer you can't get through it. I take my picker with me whenever I go away in the van as well and litter pick wherever I end up parked up.

Slightly shorter 45 minute Bert walk this morning so I had time to pedal to work which I've not done for probably nearly a year. Bert goes to work with MrsRNP and twice a week goes Carni-cross training with Lucy who picks him up from the office and takes him running for an hour - so don't feel sorry for his reduced morning walk!

Picked up a bag full from our local mtb trails this morning.ย

We smashed it through there the other day on the bike and saw a load of tha yout' sitting around in the wooded section so I knew that it would be covered in their litter afterwards.ย

Yup

I'd like to give it the traditional, 'the dog helped me pick it up' etc, but no, Harold did absolutely nothing whatsoever to help me.

I mean, zero. Nothing. It was all me. 🙂👍

This morning's Wombleing. Not sure what Bert would make of an actual Womble if ever we met one?

The Littlest Hobo (if anyone remembers that TV program from childhood)

"In today's episode Hobo helps clear up after the scruffy self centred people of Rossendale, and does two shits in the process"

No wonder I preferred watching the A-Team instead.

Happy birthday. Because you're so special to me, I'm gifting you a blight on the countryside with plastic animal choking hazards. Many happy returns.ย

ย

Woke up a bit early this morning so decided to do a route that I don't do very often.

ย

Before I'd managed to pick any litter I repatriated a shopping trolley back to the nearby retail park. Crossing a main road provides enough shame/hassle that the trolleys never seem to progress any further than the end of the 1/2mile path.

ย

That same retail path also resulted in picking one bag of litter that joined Saturdays bags from the group of Civic Pride volunteers that do the weekly cleaning of the dual carriageway into/out of our town.

ย

The next section of my route is the bit I don't often do - it's boggy in winter and there is always lots of litter and I end up late because of it. Today was no exception - a heavy full bag collected. This has all been thrown/discarded from vehicles joining and on the A56.

Left this bag at the bus stop bin for collection.

ย

The next section is a school route - when little Johnny's mum reckons her son has ADHD because he can't concentrate at school I think it might be something to do with the large Redbulls he drinks on route then throws in the bushes.

Third bag full and left at the heritage train station bin.

ย

I actually hate this time of year - it's now light enough to see but too early in the season for vegetation to cover the winter months worth of bagged dog shit, piss bottles and stolen trolleys that I can't get to or do anything about.

This forum is useless.

Go to Pistonheads and search for Spring Clean if you want to see what bags of litter look like on a normal functioning website.

Spring cleaning carried on here;

Edited to add - I've tried posting a link to Pistonheads but it's ****ing impossible. Photos don't work properly on here.

It takes forever to load a page/post.

ย I cross posted my Cayenne thread onto Pistonheads and I was genuinely surprised as I'd forgotten how smooth and flawless posting/editing was on other forums - and it's free with unobtrusive advertising!

ย

I'll come back when the forum works properly.ย If anyone is missing the sight of litter bags my user name is the same on Pistonheads.

ย IMG_0991.jpeg I've given up posting on this forum nowadays, but......

To any mountain bikers sessioning at Horncliffe woods - take your shit home with you.

ย

I don't go this route in the darker months as the path from my direction goes through a farm. Just gone this way for the first time this year and the access road is littered with water and energy drink litter.

ย

Its definitely mountain bikers - as it's clean beyond the turn off for the woods.

1 bag just on this section of my walk.

Still womble-ing every day.......

Driving past entrance to local riverside beauty spot last night and noticed a big group of young lads emerging empty handed - knew to expect chaos this morning.

They didn't disappoint, disposable BBQ's in the river, litter everywhere (there are still hundreds of McDonald's salt and pepper sachets - I didn't have time) and of course the highlight of any picnic - a trolley in the river

Waded in and got the red mop bucket that's been annoying me for awhile. Trolley left in the graveyard behind Home Bargains, bag left at council bin for collection.

Has anyone every disposed of a disposable BBQ correctly? Photo or it didn't happen!

My northern ex mill town (Rawtenstall) had a Greene King pub with adjacent large children's Charlie Chalk soft play zone.ย

It caught fire (when open with puntors inside). Closed and semi derelict since.

Planning notice just posted with details of a coffee drive thru along with another 2 drive thru's on the site so 3 in total.

The town already has a McDonald's drive thru and Costa. I fill a bag of litter with their crap every day.

I guess I'm going to be doing at least two soon.

I think it's time to move.

ย

Still litter picking every day......

2weeks off litter picking due to Bert's operation yesterday. He had a foreign body granuloma that needed surgically removing.

Was treated at the Liverpool Animal Teaching Hospital who are brilliant!

Will be interesting to see how much litter builds up with us being out of action.

He was only smiling because he was happy to be out of hospital and on the way home - NOT HAPPY at all to be wearing the cone of shame!

Harold!

I'm sorry to say I haven't done any litter picking since. I did have all the best intentions to carry on getting up at 'Bert time' but it hasn't happened.

Good to see Harold again - he always makes me smile!
