Going in a few weeks. Any recommendations for things to do within an hours drive? We're not taking bikes apart from kiddie ones.

Install family on beach.

Take yourself to the Adnams brewery and brewery tap pub (who's name escapes me, The Ship?) for a few hours.

Happy to help.

orford & framlingham castles, pond yachts @ Aldeburgh. Beer in the nelson, Dunwich (the town that slipped into the sea) and Minsmere nature reserve. Theres the camel center (very pricey) oh and an hour by car out there doesn't get you very far ๐Ÿ˜‰

Crabbing at Walberswick though the best place we ever found was Felixtowe Ferry - probably too far.

Orford + 1

Minsmere

Fish and Chips in Aldeburgh tend to be pretty good.

Fish and Chips in Aldeburgh if your idea of a good time is spending 3 hours in a queue with a bunch of Joules/Burberry/Jack Wills wearing Range Rover Sport owners. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do bring your bike and hit the trails at Tunstall Forest. Snape Maltings is on hand if the rest of the family need something to do. ๐Ÿ˜† http://www.snapemaltings.co.uk/

Otherwise....

Africa Alive in Kessingland http://africa-alive.co.uk/
Stonham Barns for Birds of Prey http://stonham-barns.co.uk/
Ben****ers Coldwar Museum http://www.bcwm.org.uk/ (You'll then be close to Rendlesham Forest Trails)

The Swan in Southwold is the brewery tap for Adnams. Lovely it is too.

The beach is always nice, as is a walk along the coast.

Sutton Hoo, the Maltings at Snape (art, tat and a good cafe), the Long Shop at Leiston (industrial mass production started here), Thorpness for the boats on the Mere. Food at Westleton Crown is quite good.

Any fule kno that fish and chips are best from the cafe on Dunwich beach.

simon_g got there first. Unless you really hate things that are a bit weird, Tim Hunkin's arcade is fantastic.

Yep, Under The Pier is completely bonkers-and great fun! Thorpeness is worth a visit just to take in it's strangeness as a purpose built holiday village. It has a nice boating lake and of course the "House in the Clouds"

We were told to go to Alderburgh for fish and chips; best in the world! Well, they're OK but not worth the queue and not worth a special trip. Better are the fish smokies on the prom. Now they are worth the effort.
