I don't think we have a drive-thru Greggs locally so it'll have to be a restaurant or poncypub instead for my looming anniversary

Any suggestions ?

Ta 🙂

Splash out on cheesey chips at the New Forest Inn https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1646451-d1522923-Reviews-The_New_Forest_Inn-Emery_Down_New_Forest_National_Park_Hampshire_Hampshire_Engla.html
Cycle friendly too (well relatively speaking for this area)

The Malet, Newton Tony. North of Salisbury. Best pub in the land!

Well that's quite an area !!!!

Greyhound on the Test (although its not really) in Stockbridge - must be booked well in advance

Can make recommendations in Southampton, Salisbury, New Forest and Winchester too if you wish

Yes please Jamba

Cheers - Been there. Must admit wasn't really planning to return, though it's nice enough (just, IMO)

Flash - thanks, noted, but a bit too far (please refrain from thinking outside the box in future). Is it good for beer/lunch & walks on summery days ??

No. It isn't good for that.

OK useful information, not sure I think my other recommendations are better food wise though - will give them anyway ... tbh if I want better quality its London and surrounding area. My wife's a very good cook and we find eating at home is better quality (and of course much cheaper) than what we can find in Southampton, NF and Winchester (we are in Hamble)

New Forest - Limewood Hotel
Southampton - Quay Fifteen
Winchester - Black Rat
Salisbury - Les Mirabelles

As I said if you don't really rate Greyhound maybe these won't work

Cheers

hmmm, Quay fifteen might be a goer - I've had that suggested by others too
Les Mirabelles is pretty local & haven't been for a while
Blach Rat's a maybe too
Limewood - is it genuinely good ? That website has put me off a bit

The pig nr Brockenhurst is nice, it's the lime woods little sister or something. We had a nice meal there before Xmas.

Whitestar tavern in Southampton is nice.

Quay 15 is good. Have been there a few times.

Pig near Brock was disappointing (too many people for size and food good but not great).
Limewood (hh&co) really good, had 3 great meals there now.
Quay 15 also good but we went on a quiet night and the staff were slightly overbearing. Food was really good.

Quay Fifteen is small with friendly staff, reasonably sophisticated food. Lighting a bit bright imo. Despite being in the Marina it doesn't have a good view.

Limewood, we enjoyed our lunch there which was good value fixed price. Website is trying to be very modern I think, its actually a nice classic country hotel and grounds

As I said there are 100's of places in and around London which ars better. Personally I'd rather have a day off and have a fixed price midweek lunch at say Waterside Inn (Michelin 3 star) than dinner Fri/Sat at one of these at similar-ish cost.
