I think the op has traded his kids into slavery at the corner shop in question
He swapped 2 x juvenile diluquents for 8 baxooka joes, 6 bootlaces, 12 outer spaces and 2 bags of space dust
It does raise a good point though and not something I’d thought of. I will instruct my kids not to give their details out to anyone.
Your kids are probably more "street smart" than you are having been training in internet safety throughout their schooling. They probably also know that there are times and places when "do not give their details to anyone" is not the best solution - like if they need help and speak to a police officer, or call an ambulance and the crew ask a bunch of personal information, or a friends parent wants your phone number to discuss some planned trip, or they try to post a package and the PO staff ask for the sender's address, or umpteen other situations where it perfectly sensible to share a sensible amount of information. Meantime they've been filmed by dozens of cameras all of which you and they ignore and with something like a school uniform will make ID trivial...
If someone demanded your name and address, would you give it?
It would depend who, how they "demanded" and in what circumstances. Generally speaking I don't consider my name to be a state secret. The OP says he "made them" give it - but doesn't explain which method of torture was used to extract this information. Somehow in true STW way they were "coerced" to supply it. I expect he probably asked, perhaps slightly authoritatively and they told him because they are nice lads who generally behave and "respect" adults. Had they been the sort of seasoned shoplifters who systematically nick stuff they'd probably have told him to F*** Off, threatened to have him stabbed and tipped over his display stand as they ran away laughing.
Have we found out which school, the big boys who did this but ran off, are from?
The older of the two boys described the uniform, which they did not immediately recognise, and we found it by doing a search of Cardiff schools online. So yes, we now know which school the other kids came from.

Careful now. This is information that can be used to identify an individual. You should probably delete that.
You don't want the ICO threatening to phone the school about your boys too!
I’m struggling with the jump from knowing a child’s name to coercing, does knowing someone’s name suddenly make them more vulnerable?
You can hunt em down on social media and find out their likes dislikes to groom em.
TBH Must be grim having any job interacting with kids nowadays.
The glaring bit of evidence is that SRs kids came home and fessed. Any kids that actually nicked something would be keeping quiet and hoping to get away with it.
Are they his children or does SR actually run a textile mill that employs child labour? Perhaps they escaped and stole something on purpose as a cry for help. We all think SR is a decent family man from Canada who studies history when he could be a slaver because this thread is quite frankly ****ing mental and nothing posted in it would surprise me.

OP is a good negotiator!
Wonders who unulalalules man on the inside is…
GDPR thing is silly. Child protection isn’t. But don’t conflate the two.
Goes off to read up on slave terms, anxious about next time the ‘my kid has nits’ thread that only has one answer (product is named after ‘that phrase’ OMFG).
I liked Flaperon’s story.
Most schizo thread on STW (can I say that?).
