following on from this thread, what songs have memorable bass lines?
I thought I'd start with
Scooby Snacks / FLC
Golden Brown / The Stranglers
"Blindness" by The Fall
Sugarhill Gang: Rappers Delight
Simple but effective

Agree it's a great bass line but it was nicked from this:
Cannonball, The Breeders
Not that much of a Killers fan but this is a nice bit of bass
Beaten to the Stones Roses, but I was going to suggest 'I am the resurrection'.
+1 cannonball
and anything by Primus, especially, shake hands with beef!
Stuart Morrow at his best
or maybe this.
IIRC Stuart played the classical guitar pieces as well
😉 8) and indeed
Grace Jones - Pull up to the bumper
Actually any Grace from the Sly & Robbie period - rhythm section genius
And more seriously and on topic: (and cos John Drummer has already popped up on this thread 😀
NWA - Express yourself - More Hippity hop thievery:
Posting NWA's take on it because it's about a hundred times better... Charles Wright always sounded to me like he's falling asleep mid song... exPRESS your... yawn... do it good... ah can't be bothered.
Or just listen to all of Led Zeppelin II. Or all their other albums.
mustn't forget Mr Foxton:
or another from JJ:

Fair point, but as this thread is all about the bass line then credit where it's due.
Chili Peppers - Higher Ground,
Ben Harper
MMW
Especially at around 3 minutes in....
most stuff by the Fall.
And the Stranglers.
Vamp - Trentemøller (Album - last resort)
most stuff by the Fall. And the Stranglers.
and New Model Army, especially the Stuart Morrow stuff. He's a big fan of The Stranglers
or this:
Can't do the video linky but
Puretone-totally addicted to bass, and almost anything off Solid Air by John Martyn.
Ian
Goodnight though - the Wonderstuff

This one takes a while to get going
Mr C
chose Sugarhill Gang as base line is more obvious 😀
