More Easy Star All Stars -
this is She's Leaving Home from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Dub Band.
Sounds far too cheerful, but I love it 😀
I'll risk a shoeing 8)
Can I just say in my defence: About a minute and a half in?
*swoons*
Gun - Word Up. May not be the best song ever, but in terms of covers, it must be in the running for "most improved"
a silly one now...
Wipe Out by the Fat Boys. Always loved this.
Underrated band, excellent cover.
Heard this recently, familiar enough that I knew the song but not so much it seemed like a pastiche (video is the only one I can find but the pink, stripping stormtrooper adds a little to it anyway)
Mudhoney Revolution, originally by spaceman 3
The man who sold the world - Nirvana
When I saw the thread I was praying no-one would suggest that one! Although I love it, listen to the original and you soon realise it is vastly inferior.
One from me - She by Elvis Costello.
Or Motorhead by Motorhead
Futureheads - Hounds of Love
Apologies for the pic, not my choice.
Automatic fail for putting up a cover by Amy Whitehouse, bloody woman's barely capable of turning in a competent version of her own songs, let alone anyone else's.
Anyhoo, one or two of mine:
Here, There and Everywhere by Emmylou Harris
Comfortably Numb, by Dar Williams
She's Lost Control, by Grace Jones
Umbrella, by Mechanical Bride
Smells Like Teen Spirit, by Tori Amos
If 6 Was 9, by Tori Amos
Ring My Bell, by Tori Amos
Words, by Shawn Colvin
Dolphins, by Tim Buckley/Eddie Reader
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody), by Shawn Colvin
Good find - had forgotten all about Nouvelle Vague
too flippin right, her 'own' songs are rip offs of othersAutomatic fail for putting up a cover by Amy Whitehouse, bloody woman's barely capable of turning in a competent version of her own songs, let alone anyone else's.
jaysus, no jeff buckley - hallelujah?
or nirvana - jesus don't want me for a sunbeam (though maybe not 'better' than the original, but certainly worthy of mention)
Tainted love- soft cell

The man who sold the world - Nirvana
PMSL at that, a 3rd rate MTV grunge band who managed one decent album.
David Bowie's version is the greatest song ever recorded, FACT 🙂
Teenage Fanclubs Like a Virgin: I dunno how turning a classic bit of pop music into a tedious boring guitar dirge makes it better?
rubbish
sonic youths version of Into the Groove on the other hand...
Take this job and shove it
PMSL at that, a 3rd rate MTV grunge band who managed one decent album.
You can always count on music threads for the terminal tryhards 🙄
i wouldn't say improved but i love this
😀 should have added the top video is the original.the bottom one by weird al yankovic beat it/eat it.
Not sure if it's a massive improvement on the original, but it's getting there.
Last one:
Chris Daughtry - I walk the line.
Whatever you think of reality pop star shows, this one stands out - ff to around 1min 20s
John Lennon - Stand by Me
another Dylan track greatly improved. The Byrds did a whole album of Dylan tracks.
Perhaps not 'improved' but just as good. A great story to accompany it too 😀
Hadn't seen the Crowbar version but this is my favourite cover:
I just can't get lost in the Led Zepp version like Tool's take on it.
Anyone who thinks Travis (TRAVIS!!) can improve on Britney Spears needs their bleedin 'ead tested!
😛
Granted, perhaps not as aesthetically pleasing in a school uniform.
Well Jamelia's Stop is much better than the original
But I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet.
Can't agree on Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah - Leonard's original is the best.
How about: Oops I did it again, Richard Thompson?
