Not a Peel show without a bit of Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle
Makes me cry remembering this song, Peel playing it and my life changing for the better
A hot day, the smell of hairspray
And the sound of a shower running softly
It's things like this that remind me of how I felt
The first time you came back for coffee

I love this thread.
I miss John Peel.
A little bit of radio died with him.
fuzzbox- just done a little wee with excitement ๐
I love Vix
Hmm, a stroll down memory lane. I have a blast first boot cassette for the sonic youth 'feed the fall' session from, oh 87 or 88. Just a tape of the nights show. Phenomenal. I loved the man.
Thanks to kayak for that Peej vid. I love it, been in a real pj groove of late and this pops up quite often. ๐
It saddens me that my kids will never have a John Peel
You are welcome Taz.
Ah this mortal coil superb, always liked:
Last one from me.
They played this the day John died, I cried and it still chokes me up
Nice thread picto ๐
last one from me.
see you tomorrow PICTO xx
Ivor Cutler
Spent most of my early 20's picking up on stuff from him, one of my fave tracks from the Cocteau Twins as I loved anything a bit dark
Number one in the 1982 all time festive 50 (atmosphere already posted number 1 in the 2000 all time ff.
There will never be a time when John Peel is not king ๐
sadly under rated
And now for something a little odd ๐
Ooo that is odd. Chameleons - inspired.
Flip side to TVOD
John Peel Show October 1980. "Heartland".
Absolutely immense record - and a Festive Fifty winner, IIRC.
loved the festive fifty, used to stay up late trying to record it on a C90 - even got the original Geek Love on 12" in the attic somewhere, as well as these
some peelie inspired bands i've seen at the old Duchess of York in Leeds (such a shame its now a ****ing hugo boss shop)
I never "got" Geek Love. Seems like a really average track to me.
Some nice vids there Chunky. Saw MBV and Pixies bitd at the international 2 in Manchester. Great gig.
I was a massive blast first fan. Never managed to see big black but caught rapeman a couple of times. I know crap name. Great band though.
Peel was pretty supportive of the Scottish bands.
Two of my all time favourites:
Certainly is amazing what you can find on youtube these days innit?!
I wonder if....
Yep, even Dr Phibes!
Remember hearing this when I was in the bath!
Superb choices there Dave ๐
