"The school minibus is coming up for sale. Why don't you buy it and convert it into a camper van?"
I've been reading the MikeD van conversion thread and getting myself excited at the prospect.
Biggest issue is I'm not sure we'll fit a Transit 350 LWB on the drive.
Oh, and the tail lift might not be needed.
"No dear, you work very hard and always put Me and the Kids first - it's only fair that you take a long weekend riding with your friends and in no way will I emotionally blackmail you for 3 months prior to you leaving."
Bloody clickbait.
I was expecting so much more. ๐ฏ

P-Jay - she's also suggested I do a weekend in Wales this summer. I narrowed my eyes suspiciously at that one!
Do it and that's my lift every Thursday and Sunday sorted ๐
she is clearly having an affair and wants rid of you.

In that case you should push for a week in the Alps ๐
hmm - would the lift on the back be strong enough to get a big motorbike inside, too???
Or as an improvised bike rack?

300kg capacity having a quick google
not sure driving round with a 5ft aluminium platform flapping about in the breeze behind would be possible?
300kg?
I knew kids were getting fat but sheeesh

Some of the specialist electric wheel chairs the kid at my wife's school use weigh over 100kg then you have the kid plus the weight of a helper and then maybe another to help once it's raised up too, I guess it's not that high a limit?

And mine!
Funnily enough we were looking at possibly thinking about maybe a camper van. And a transit would fit on my drive. You could pop round and have a look any time? Would you have it sorted by the summer?
One concern I had was it fitting in the car parks at Stanmer ๐
Not sure when their new one arrives, tbh, might be a few months.
And then I'm umming and ahhing about whether to convert a minibus that size or try and find a panel van that's maybe a bit shorter.
Plan would be to keep it usable whilst converting it. Would be a good vehicle to have for the Big Dog ๐
I don't think there is height restriction at Upper Lodges car park, or to get to the tea room, and if you come down through the Uni I dont think you go under one either. The sports car park had width limits but think those are out now?
I was looking at the Mazda Bongo. There seem to be a couple of specialists locally (one on the A27 and one on the A23 I think) who sell them as day vans and/or convert for you.
You dont have to give me a lift to Big Dog this year though so don't worry too much about that...
Once you've worked out where to park it, it would be a good size to convert depending on what you wanted and how many there are in the house hold.
If you get it cheap enough then happy days otherwise I'd look for a panel van and cut windows in rather than a minibus and blank windows out. Plus apart from hauling in large Motorbikes the tail lift is redundant(?) and whathas that weight off the back done to the rear springs subframe.

I expect we'll get away earlier this year by dint of not getting in the top 3, if it's any help?
It's the length and height that worry me, tbh. Just under 6m and 2.4m is pretty large for something to use as an occasional 'getting around' vehicle as well as a dedicated camper.
[edit]
what has that weight off the back done to the rear springs subframe
that was all sorted out last year at great expense - one of the staff had been trying to get air time off some of the speed humps leading down to the school ๐

If you read the small print section of the T's n C's you will find that commercial vehicles are to be parked outside the houses of your immediate, or not so immediate neighbours and that said commercial vehicle is to be parked to cause as much inconvenience and misery to your neighbours as is Humanly possible.
I heard that it's an EU directive, to make everywhere look like a Kak hole.
you`ll be tight on the width bollard in stanmer car parks but the one near the village is not restricted.
2.4 is wide. and at 6m long you wont fit it in [s]asdas[/s] waitroses car parking spaces either...
would make a good campervan though. we have a vw t4 which is great as bike transport and weekending but a squeeze for camping for any duration.
sorry think 2.4 is the height - may only be 2.1 wide - I measured it as 180 across the widest point internally.
Would that tail lift go high enough to work as a rear spoiler, lime on an old Escort Cosworth?
