The pundits saying it wasn't a red are badly out of touch with reality. It was red card every day of the week for me and looking at those injury's probably deserves to be a bit lengthier as well.
MAybe the fact they're ex-professionals and are currently respected pundits means they actually know a bit more about football than you lot ?

I can also understand what the pundits said, that there was no malice and they'd have gone in for it too, but that's the changing game now. It doesn't have to be malicious, you have to control yourself to not simply not be malicious but also to have proper regard for the safety of a fellow player, and to realise (even in the heat of the moment in a game) that what you are about to do, be it a raised foot, or a swinging arm, or a 'committed' (euphemism) tackle - that if it endangers the opponent then you've committed a sending off offence.
What was interesting (and i can't remember the game) but there was a game the following day i think where there was a similar incident but no contact made, no injury, no foul called - but the intent or lack of it was exactly the same, the lack of thought for the safety of the opponent was the same, but the sanction totally different (ie none) - and at the time the radio pundits were saying that Liverpool should use the incident to appeal the decision on the basis of consistency!

The problem is they are seeing themselves in that position, and know they'd do exactly the same thing, so they empathise with Mane. The fact is if you go for a ball like that and get the ball and miss the opponent and score then great (assuming the keeper doesn't have to take evasive action to avoid your head high boot), but if you catch the opponent then it's a red.

Hardly respected, more like paid to spout sh*te. If they actually knew the laws of the game I might have more time for them.

Funnily enough, the consensus for pundits who were players in the 70s and 80's seems to be that it would have been red then as well, it's the more recently retired pundits who want to portray that they were harder than reality who seem to be excusing it.

Which in itself is an interpretation, if you're reckless it's a yellow card but reckless and [u]with excessive force[/u] it's red; and seems to me that in most cases while the excessive bit can be interpreted as whether you kicked him or kicked him hard, when it's a boot in the face it's pretty well automatically deemed 'excessive' force because there's hardly an appropriate level of force to use when kicking an opponent in the face 😉
I didn't have any doubts it was a red. My thinking that it was completely immaterial whether there was intent or not....the attacker knows the keeper is coming for the ball and just to raise your foot means you have a high chance of damaging your opponent.
I played the game for years up front and never kicked a goalie.

I cannot believe that Liverpool are appealing that red card. 3 matches is the standard ban for a red for excessive force so I cannot see any grounds for it. The FA should add and extra game to the ban as the appeal is clearly frivolous.
The scousers should really be keeping their heads down and practice defending as their collapse was embarrassing. It is not even as if they attacked for the rest of the match. Klopp seems pretty one dimensional as a manager.

So apart from Liverpool all English teams comfortably through the first round of games in the champions league, Spurs have got to be happy beating Dortmund, even though they are not quite the team they were a couple of years ago it is still a decent scalp to take in the opening game.
Was disappointed in Liverpools result, really really should have got more out of the game, but would be even more disappointed if they still don't go through.
Lovrens defending was disgraceful, can't comprehend that. I thought he'd got his act together at the end of last season, but that, sheesh, he needs shooting for that !
It's a familiar scenario though Weeksy. They scored with their only two attacks on target. Liverpool are just a doddle to score against. Set pieces, corners, or balls whipped from the wings into the box and your defense is absolutely all over the shop. The keeper(s) don't help matters. They're both flaky and unpredictable. I wouldn't fancy being a defender playing in front of either of them.
I'm mystified as to why they've not strengthened at the back though. The only explanation is that they really have just opted for the Kevin Keegan '**** it! We'll just score more than you' approach
Lovran is just the latest in a long line of defenders who were part of decent defensive unit, but who go to pieces once they've arrived at Anfield and are initiated into Klopps headless chicken 'style' of defending
I think City would have put at least 4 past you anyway at the weekend, even if you'd have had 11 men on the pitch. Any decent squad will. You're just too easy to score against. The difference is that you may have got a couple back, so the scoreline would be less embarrassing
Pretty sure they would have signed van dijk were it not for the shambolic way they went about it. But I don't think even Franco Baresi would improve them much defensively - it's the mindset and playing in front of two dodgy keepers. Everton a shambles at the minute. Koeman has to gel a lot of new players so no one is expecting him to do so overnight, but the performances have been brutal thus far. Squad seems very unbalanced and extremely slow 1-11.
I wonder how good Ron really is - part of the aristocracy as a player with a correspondingly high opinion of himself, I feel, and is generally well regarded in the media. But he's been coaching nearly 20 years and it's been a very mixed bag.

Well I'll say that is the furthest up we go this season, 3 on the bounce and should have been 4-0 at half time. Just some of the usual Newcastle nerves to keep it interesting till the end.
Good performance by city today, got a couple of decisions went our way. Last year we had quite a lot of offside decisions wrongly go against us, I wonder if the officials analysed that and reaffirmed the rule that if unsure the advantage should go to the attacking side. First decision for the Aguero goal was only an inch offside, the linesman could only guess so its right to go to give the benefit to the attack. Second decision for the Jesus goal, the linesman should have done better.
That said but the scoreline didn't flatter, city were just that dominant. 15 goals in 3 games, shame I can only watch on TV.

I only saw the second half of the MU Everton game. Everton look to have made a mistake not recruiting a striker, they probably edged the game other than goals scored, Rooney had a couple of moments but in general they just don't have much of a threat in the final third.
The score line definitely flattered us. De Gea made a couple of great saves again
But we look a different team from last season. There's plenty of players looking to score. The Rashford/Tony Marshall supersub routine has been the highlight of the season so far for me. Lingard had a great game when he came on too. Lovely little flick on for Lukaku's goal
City look awesome though. They're taking teams apart! Can't wait for the derby! 😀

It was great to see him get such a good reception. Former United players always do. The only exception to that I've seen was Paul Ince who got dogs abuse, unremittingly for 90 minutes when he came back in a Liverpool shirt

Everyone seems to be focusing on this, but they can't defend either. They've conceded the joint highest in the league so far. And then another 3 against Atalanta in mid week, who are only a mid table Seria A team.
On paper they've a couple of easy games coming up, but if those go badly then I think we can expect Koeman to be gone.

I'll have a fiver on Woy being gone next. I reckon he'll be gone after the next 4 games, with Palace having scored none, and conceded 16-20, possibly more. Both Manchester teams and Chelski must be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of playing these donkeys at the moment. In fact, Huddersfield must be looking at giving them a shoeing tonight. I was basing that potential pessimism about assumingly easy cup games on going with my scouse mate to Anfield in January, and watching an absolutely abject Liverpool performance as they ground out a 0 - 0 draw against those titans of international football Plymouth Argyle.
It was pure comedy gold! Liverpool were embarrassingly poor! The Kop was totally silent and all the Plymouth fans were bouncing, singing 'is this a library?' and 'would you like us to sing a song for you?' 😆
I don't envisage us encountering similar problems to that Liverpool squad tonight.

He was getting serenaded by Old Trafford last night. As always. He had a great game! He's very very popular is Tony Marshall. And with good reason. Its not just scoring. His work rate is immense. He never stops. His movement off the ball, and positional awareness is fantastic. Constantly making runs, and drawing in defenders. Maybe that doesn't come across as well on't'tellybox. He was taken out, off the ball, about 5 times last night in the first half. Didn't scream at the ref, or make a fuss, just got back up and got on with it.
And as a left-sided player who likes to hug the touchline then cut in and run at defenses with pace, he reminds everyone of some other bloke we had who used to do that. I forget his name. Welsh lad?
Remember that he's only 21. I reckon he's got all the makings of a United legend. He also reminds me of Ronnie in his first couple of seasons in that he needs to really find his shooting boots yet. Everything else is there, bar a better final ball. He will though
