"The court heard how Christopher Gard had been convicted of using his mobile phone while driving six times before the crash that killed Lee Martin "
In this case the magistrate who , in court , 6 weeks before the death of a cyclist , let a guy on 18 points , keep his licence as he pleaded hardship, keep driving . in my eyes that magistrate is almost as guilty as the builder who was driving.( i know i am biased )
Well, I am pleased to have started such a comment worthy thread.
Crazy-legs = thanks for the advice, might have to deploy one day soon!
Thanks for the support Mole Grips.
Martin, I'm fairness she would happily agree to the description of narcissist, which I think is one of the criteria for diagnosis. Thing is though, I bloody love the lass and 90% of the time she is amazing. It's just she knows it!
Singletrackmind, you are almost certain on to a thing there.
ElShamilo, I'm afraid not - I drive a 1.2 litre Nissan!
I'm not trolling, or lackadaisical, but I'm essentially a Southpark Marxist - by which I mean that I like red meat, bad taste Frankie Boyle jokes and a bit of danger as well as Socialism and being a deputy head.
I'm just not very pious and can't seem to muster any anger over the safety aspect.
Some of the advice seems to be 'take the keys off of her' but she's an adult working woman with her own bank account, so it's not like I'm going to stop her running a car, is it?
Lastly, to be honest, it is a necessity for us to have two cars: We live in Redhill, she works in Epsom, I work in Croydon. We've two kids underthe age of 4. Short of her givi g up work (undesirable) it's two cars or bust.
In response, she has agreed to go on an advanced / defensive driving course and we now have separate insurance. So she knows she's got to shape up.
Anyways, thanks for the feedback.
Cheers, peace out. Alex
she has agreed to go on an advanced / defensive driving course
That is excellent news, it will be interesting to hear how she got on.
Lots of bluster above but driver training sounds like a pragmatic and sensible approach.
Alex, given what you've said about her, if her advanced driving course is like one I did, the first question may cause some trouble if she doesn't know the catch. It was "on a scale of 1 to 10, how good a driver are you?" Anyone who said 10 was off the course.
It was “on a scale of 1 to 10, how good a driver are you?” Anyone who said 10 was off the course.
Really. Did they refund the money they’d taken off them and be aware that they could end up being sued for costs incurred?
Lols surely the people who say 10 are exactly the ones who need the course!!!😂
OP can you do me a favour, and not let your Mrs drive anywhere west of her prescribed route, that way I'll be safe on the roads 😁 cheers 👍
Lols surely the people who say 10 are exactly the ones who need the course!!!😂
The ones who think they are 10/10 will learn nothing, disrupt the course and hinder the rest trying to learn something.
If they think they are 10/10 why are they taking a course?
Cos women do the cooking, cleaning and looking after kids, right?
Some years back, not long after a new bypass was opened taking traffic away from the town centre bottleneck, with a 60 limit on it, a woman taking her kids to school turned around to tell the kids off because they were playing up, drifted across the road, into the front of a large truck. Neither were speeding, maximum speed of both was 30 mph, but she was killed outright. All because of a momentary lapse of attention because she was distracted.
This could just as easily be the OP’s wife, doing day-to-day things.
If they think they are 10/10 why are they taking a course?
The Health and Safety at Work Act now covers driving. That means employers must ensure the safety of their employees (and third parties) whilst driving on company business (not commuting to work).
Some companies exercise this responsibility by sending their employees on advanced driving courses - whether they need it or not.
I’m just not very pious and can’t seem to muster any anger over the safety aspect.
Try riding a bike to work day in and day out, with people like her on the road you will soon learn to 'muster some anger over safety'. RLJers in cars, people speeding past you well above the limit in 30 zones. People who see you on the main road and just put their foot down to pull out of the side road anyway across your path. Pedestrians who step out into the road without looking. Drivers who tell you to get off the road and pay some road tax. Drivers who overtake only to stamp on the brakes and turn left, tuck into the pavement to ensure you can't pass, sit in the cycle lane. Close passers who literally hate cyclists for no apparent reason.
Also, skip forward 6 months when she has actually killed someone in an RTA, you won't look back on this thread and think, oh perhaps there was something in this.
Last week I cycled past a car on it's roof after it had removed a traffic light at crossroads after the driver had a 'Medical episode', he'll probably just replace it with a Zafira so he can run the kids to school though.

We live in Redhill, she works in Epsom, I work in Croydon
there's a major train line that runs from Redhill to Croydon...
Why get the train when you can drive in a bat-shit-mental-way through the Surrey ghetto?

Perfect for "take your wife to work" day.
Damn it. I saw this pop back up and thought there was another wrecked car being reported.
My wife scraped my alloys as she went to the Stevie Wonder School of driving.
£200 alloy repair refurb and tracking for another £200.
Could have used that to buy some road wheels! 😡
I’m going hold back sex for a month to punish her.
I’m going hold back sex for a month to punish her.
Isn't that just rewarding bad behaviour?
Two hundred quid for tracking?! The last time I had it done it was about £30.
I’m just not very pious and can’t seem to muster any anger over the safety aspect.
What's piety got to do with it? Why not just say the safety aspect doesn't anger you?
What’s piety got to do with it?
To get to the crust of the matter.
