[Closed] So I've had an interesting afternoon - Abuse content!

So we went to look at a car. This one:As from this thread of mine(Before I start please bear in mind I know one end of a car from another. I've had many bangers. I've built engines, fitted gearboxes. I'm a fair mechanic. I'm not stupid either) On the phone the bloke sounded a bit 'bored' or 'uninterested' but I ignored this as I've spoken to loads of people who sound the same who are fine when you meet them. He sounded as though he'd been messed around with the car in the past, to be fair. No bother. That happens. So we turn up at and he seems a bit pushy to me. He tells me it's the cheapest on in the country and that it's worth £1400. I know this is rubbish and that it's at the top end of what it's worth. I still ignore it as I'm going through the service history with a fine tooth comb. Looking at the car shortly after I see, (as I expected from the pic in the ad) that the front offside wing has been replaced and has since been damaged again. I also expected this because there was a bill for a new sidelight in the history. Bear in mind the description in the ad. I believe the words PRISTINE and SUPERB CONDITION are used. It's not. Its probably above average. Maybe even 'good', but nowhere even close to pristine. I pop the lid and spot some oiliness down below. He fobs me off that it's water. I point out the coolant is a little low, but he misses the link between the two. I produce a tyre depth gauge to check the tread. I don't want to be replacing tyres. Oil is overdue for a change. 10k in the history since changed, it's not clean on the dipstick either. I keep quiet about that though. No bother. We go for a drive, car starts easily, ticks over fine, auto box shifts well. Brakes feel wooden (Seized??) and the car pulls left - "the tyre must be soft" he says. 'Why the hell didn't you check them before trying to sell it?' I think to myself. The bloke is getting more of a pushy know it all. He's telling me not to open the window as I can hear the engine better with them closed. "I'm hot" is my polite reply We stop. I try the radio. Dead. "It was working." He fiddles. It's still dead. I open the door and blip the throttle. Exhaust's blowing slightly. I lie down in the gutter for a look. Centre section is rusty as hell. I hop to the front and look under the running engine. A dark oily crankcase greets me. it doesn't look too bad to be fair, but there's a drip. I touch the drip. Oil, 100% for certain, as I suspected from above. Now bear in mind that Kirsty and I have been polite, and very friendly and he still just keeps getting pushier. "Oh yeah, they said it was blowing on the MOT but it can't be leaking oil or it would have failed" I try explaining that oil leaks are not MOT problems but exhausts are and that the centre section of the exhaust will need replacing soon, and that the non working radio is no good to me. I also point to that he's said to me earlier that there were no advisories on the MOTs. He denies this. He's really annoying me by now though so in the end I just say "Sorry I don't want it. There's too much wrong with it for me" I've never done that before. Said "No" straight to someones face. it's usually "I've got another to look at, I'll call you back" which is code for 'Thankyou, but no thank you' At all times I was polite. Then he starts ranting (No other word for it) that I'm mad and I'll be looking for 6 months too find one. And that Kirsty must be bored of me being like this. I try and thank him for his time, but he drives off, still ranting. And the icing on the cake? As I drive home, 2 text messages - [url[urlby [urlon Flickr As you can see I ignored him, so far.... Suggestions on a postcard please..... To be honest, I would have probably made an offer on it, but he was such a prick he can keep it.
