Silly question... but I've just had a lead to get somebody rather good!

It will probably come to nothing but it is worth a try.

Somebody rather good, someone folk may have heard of if they are into the scene will cost you upwards of £1.5k to £3k+ for a 2hr set, someone pretty much everyone will have heard of will cost you upwards of £5k to £8k++ for a 2 hr set.

Craig is a good laugh and a massive musico with extensive knowledge of funk n' soul', he played the closing of the main stage at the Wickerman festival back in 2011 then came along to our Dance music tents afterwards - He' will not be cheap, but his collection is rather good.

I'd have some old skool DJ's like Slipmatt or Ellis Dee, but my music taste is still back in 1992-95.

The glory years as my mate calls them.

EDIT: My mate knows some old skool DJ's (such as the above) so can get details if your interested.

Charlty bike race at 10:00am in a muddy Manchester field in February.

I'd hope he'd do it for a brew, shout AWOOGA and help us raise a few quid.

Andrew Weatherall (or rather his booking agent caroline fae spun-out) would expect £6K for a 2hr set, plus expenses which would run to another £500.

They're (DJ's) not cheap, but for someone of weatheralls standing it's worth it.

Whilst on a school reunion (after far too many glasses of sherry I hasten to add) we discovered (aka internet stalking /google searches)one of our school chums is a mad for it, banging tunes, massive DJ. Which is highly amusing, 'cos I would never ever have thought he'd have become anything but an accountant. He is still working, big nights out in large venues, pretty high up the flier pecking order. Saw a video of him on youtube. At first thought it was a smashey and nicey house dj piddle take. But no. For real!

If it's a charity event and one he can sympathise with/support, and you can guarantee a big and very enthusiastic crowd, and he's not doing anything else (which is a long shot) you may have a teeny chance - especially if you could show positive publicity for him regarding press coverage.

What have you got to lose?, you don't get if you don't ask 😀 .

I don't think I've imagined Boy George DJing at the 2nd Red Bull Mountain Mayhem in Sandwell Park? It was a little surreal to burst out of the darkness to find a full on gig taking place with 1000s of locals and seemingly no MTBers..

If an iPod playlist through the PA isn't adequate (you did say it's a race, not a rave) why not get a local band that does decent covers? That way you get people who actually play instruments instead of a bloke with a big ego swapping CDs.
