Literally just about to phone Orangeatan and renew my contract but this time it will have to be a 24month instead of an 18month.

They want to charge me £100 for a desire with a loyalty discount which from my phone band fund would seem bugger all.

They want to charge me £200 for a desire HD and charge me £2.50 per month more for the same tariff I'm on at the moment.

Was told sepcifically by an Orangatan representative that they would beat any deal I was offered elsewhere, especially after renegotiating a deal in a high street phone shop.

So what gives, apart from the fact that mobile call prices have reduced under new rules set out by some mobile phone regulator.
Yet I'm going to be charged more per month for same minutes etc and then £200 extra for a handset to entice me back with them for a further contract period.

Just weighing up the pro's and con's to getting the desire or the desire hd.

Battery life for example, which one would be better in real world use?

Screen quality better on which model as the HD would suggest that it's not all that with the WGVA screen instead of the AMOLED.?

Video calling, cannot see it as an option on the standard desire.

Sound which is important is dolby srs surround on the HD but cannot see or hear that the standard desire has very good speaker phone for calling and music.?

I'm pretty sure the HD is the one to get, not just because it's the latest but because HTC are catching up slowly in terms of (simple)features compared to Nokia.
Just the desire could be alot cheaper with the 2.2 update found on the HD which is available to download.

Oh and I'm coming from a Nokia touch screen jobby so don't really know what I'm expecting from the HTC apart from good things.?.

If you're coming from a Nokia it won't be a big task for either of them to be an improvement.

*waits (im)patiently for upgrade time at Christmas to ditch my awful N97 Mini in favour of a Desire HD*

£200 for the phone sounds a lot.

How many mins/texts/net?

You can buy a desire HD outright for £450ish, could you save £250 over a year/two on the contract by not taking a phone/getting a contract from someone else? I suspect so.

Finding the mobile contracts these days pretty ridiculous, however I've just left O2 and bought myself one of the new Orange San Francisco android phones for a ton, unlocked it, and am with T-Mobile on £10 per month for 500 mins, unlimited texts, and 3GB of data.

24 month contracts on £30+ a month and paying for the handset just seems wrong. Different strokes for different folks, but is that HD video recording worth the extra £££?
