...and gloves under sleeves
Yeah I realise my "gloves over sleeves" look in the OP is a terrible fashion faux pas these days - but I ignore that as find it much more practical: no snow forced up the sleeves when you put out an arm and much quicker to get gloves off/on when taking photos.
Black jackets look good, but don't you sweat like a mofo when it's a sunny blue sky day?
so no colours, and no black...picky, aren't we!?!?
Wasn't having a dig at you Cap'n. Most of the guys I've seen wearing Spyder (and it's always guys) seem to have the George Hamilton tan and this season's matching everything.

Exacting, I'd say 😀
I've nothing against colour, I just don't want ALL the colours at the same time! 🙂
Any Burton AK 2 , hot days cold days, fashion proof, and gloves under sleeves
+1, especially about the gloves! Burton Jackets come up big so might want to size down.
If you have time ebay from the US could save you a lot of money.

Just looked at your OP picture again - did you used to get on the Fernie ski-hill shuttle bus at 'The Stanford'?
Personally I've always prefered the gloves under the sleeves ensemble, but whatever works for you I reckon - as long as it's not the seat of one's trousers hanging down to one's knees in a yo-gangsta stylee I say vive la différence. But we were all young once and the youth has every right to annoy the elders with its fashion quirks...

Surprisingly not - mind you a clear, sunny day in BC is likely to be a chilly -20 something celsius! 😯
Being an old fart, I was blissfully unaware of this 'gloves under sleeves' thing.
Surely gloves are designed to go over the sleeves, thus forming a seal, so that wind/snow doesn't go up your arm?
Softshell breathes better, has a soft feel and is reasonably snow-proof. Not waterproof but if it's raining you'll be in the bar.

That would be scary, but nope. We stayed at Susan's amazing chalet (highly recommended) and got a taxi to the slopes (cos she had a broken arm and couldn't drive us).

Ed Zackerly. Under sleeves is just fashion over function. 🙂
I prefer a GTX Mountaineering shell as a Ski Jacket (with powder skirt) - much more flexible, leave it off and just ski in windproof mid layer when it's not snowing / windy.

(Gloves go under the sleeves - then there's no room to get snow up there, plus jacket has wrist gaiters)
See my current jacket hasn't got wrist gaiters. It dates from those halycon days when gloves over sleeves was de rigueur, along with big ass gauntlets.
My gloves are Dakine Scouts - they are designed to go over:
Gauntlets over sleeves when ripping the phatttt pow on your phatttt pow-planks (or plank if you're a planker) help to keep the phatttt pow out of your sleeves. It's much the same reason as many companies still make [s]babygro[/s] onesies for "heli-skiers".
Yeah that Captain, and if you're a photo geek it is much easier to take the glove off, get a shot and put it back on again - often while still moving. 🙂
You're spot on Dez - those guys are no doubt excellent at rippin the pow and just like them they would have to pay me a lot of money to wear that 😉
As for ripping the pow: gloves over? Tell that to the guys who can really do it...
Pros In Wearing What Sponsors Tell Them To shock! 🙂
Look back 10 years and you'll see loads of folk, including pros, with gloves over.
Fashions change. I find over more practical and I wear what I like ffs! 😉
So what have you decided upon?
Mines the same as the bloke on the right of my pic btw. Except... black. And er, probably not the same make 🙂
Decisions? I don't come here to make decisions!
Right now I'm swithering about just reproofing my old jacket for the umpteenth time and putting the money towards a guide instead 😀
Very sensible
check out REHALL good quality and cool
Further to the gloves over/under debate, apparently the scene kids are currently debating whether to wear goggle straps over or under their helmet. 🙄
Googles with no beanie - another faux pas...
Googles with no beanie - another faux pas...
+1, plus it must be pretty chilly at speed even on warm spring day!
First saw the 'helmet over the google strap' thang in Whistler a number of years ago when there as a big international half-pipe competition - seemed very popular with the Japanese participants and the free-style/slope-style riders in general.
At the time helmets weren't quite as commonplace on the slopes but they were mandatory in the halfpipe so it was quite common to see riders with beanie/toque & goggles and a pisspot bike/skate helmet (i.e. one without fury winter liner) hooked onto their belts.
Seems pretty common now with freestyle riders - certainly means your goggles aren't held in place with a little plasic clip or worse - some duct tape!
Yeah, but doesn't it mean you can't take your goggles off without removing your helmet?? And you have the buckle of the goggles digging into your skull.
As always I'll ignore the fashion and do what I find convenient and comfortable 😀
That would be scary, but nope
In which case - I've met your double! 😆
regarding the gloves being over or under the sleeves, I always found that the 'cuffs; of gloves worn over the sleeves got full of snow when I bailed - and the snow would then end up in the glove when I removed it ...
... guess it depends on your chosen glove/jacket interface and what combination works for you. I'm currenty usng a pair of Dakine Cobras and these fit neatly under a sleeve like a harvest festival! (everything safely gathered in!) 😆
As always I'll ignore the fashion and do what I find convenient and comfortable
Agreed - not for me either, I'm far too old to try and compete with the youth on matters of taste and fashion!
Craig Kelly used to ride in what looked like jester pants, a football commentators overcoat and Oakley Razor Blades ... thankfully fashion and taste has moved on ... and ski fashion has seemingly benefited from Snowboarding style inasmuch as the dayglow 'one-piece' of yesteryear is rarely seen these days unless one is attempting a post-modern ironic comment on consumerism! 🙂
In which case - I've met your double!
I was in Fernie Feb 2010. There was a group of us staying at Susan's chalet: 4 snowboarders, 2 adult skiers, 2 kids on skis and one fairly pregnant lady (my missus 🙂 )
I always found that the 'cuffs; of gloves worn over the sleeves got full of snow when I bailed
Proper gauntlets should have a drawstring at the end of the cuff (bottom left in the Dakine Scout photo above), as well as the usual wrist strap. If that is done up then you shouldn't get much snow up there.

I was there for the whole of Feb 2010 so it's possible we did catch a chair lift together at some point!
Congratulations on the baby btw!

indeed - but we all have to walk to the beat of our own drummer don't we? 8) - so for the time being at least I'll stick with velcro cuff adjusters!
somebody needs to tell these guys about the gloves:

Yeah more than likely. If so, hello again! 😀
Aaah Fernie.. happy days... straight up Timber Bowl then short hike to Morning Glory for fresh tracks in stupid deep pow.
I always look at boarding-wear in the UK and think "what sort of a goon would wear neon paisley trousers?!? I'll just buy these sensible black ones"..... only to get to the alps and wish I'd gone for something a bit more interesting.
Hurtling down an alp strapped to a snowboard is not very sensible anyway.... why not look like a bag of skittles whilst doing so?

Because I remember the 80's?
So bright you've stolen the colour from the sky!
Hello again indeed! 🙂
Lovin' the Fernie shots.
Morning Glory one of my favourites too! Never fails to put a smile on my face!
Second shot looks like it was taken looking left off the White Pass Chair?

Mate's shots rather than mine, so I'm not definite, but yeah White Pass sounds about right.
Loved Morning Glory. Needed more talent than I had to ride it smoothly, but it was always a hoot getting down it anyway and there always seemed to be some freshies in there.
