[Closed] Smashed screen on iPod 3rd Gen - where to get fixed

Evening all.

My daughter has just handed me her iPod touch on the verge of tears along with a quivering bottom lip " Daddy, I think there is something wrong with my iPod."

Smashed screen.

Any suggestions on the best place to get the screen replaced?

(Yes, I know its an old iPod but I don't fancy replacing it with a new one, especially as she has gone and smashed the screen on this one. Ta in advance.)

Have you had a look at iFixit? If after a read you feel confident a new screen is €35 from the same people. They also sell the spudgers to open it up. Failing that wysiwyg on here does repairs try a message to him.

Cheers Sandwich, I'll look into both options.

@Sandwhich - looked at iFixit. Looks like a tricky procedure. Can't find wysiwyg listed on the forum. Does he go by another name?

Hola. Quite possibly my most loathed device. I probably wont have time to do it as im off to Whistler in a week unfortunately and cant guarantee getting a screen in stock and it fixed and back to you in time

Thanks for the reply wysiwyg. Not a job for a plucky amateur such as myself then? Enjoy Whistler.

Here is a guide

Its a fiddly job - you can do it if you have some confidence and a steady hand.

I have changed the battery on a 1st gen touch - it took a long time and
was really tough - but was completely dead without the battery changed so nothing to lose . (Very difficult to open device)

The hard bit is lifting the board up without ripping the volume rocker cables off. Then you have to unpeel the copper tape and fix a new cable without being able to see what you're doing as it attaches underneath. What's the current worth of a 4g? Most places are going to cost £45 to repair it. A screens £15. You pays your money you takes your choice.
