I think a phone call is long overdue, this might well force my arm.

On the other hand, I haven't had such an email as yet.

So, they lost a whole much of revenue when the suspended Sports subscriptions during COVID19 wave one.   I suspect a whole load of newly redundant people are trimming thier bills.

Its inevitable they want thier money back.  And this is just the start, I've just had an email from TravelLodge+ (not that I used them) to start the extras going onto their hotels to make them "cleaner" and virus free - that extra time & effort and chemicals will need to be paid for, notwithstanding 3-4 months of empty hotels still requiring leases and bills to be paid.

Vis a Vis you shouldn't be shocked that prices will be going up pretty much everywhere for the foreseeable.

Our Sky bill went down as they sent us a thing saying if you take this package it's cheaper but offers the same stuff.

Alternative is basically all the streaming services. Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Now, Disney, HBO (soon). Take a month or two, watch what you want, cancel and try the next one. Rinse and repeat at your leisure. If you’re after sports though I have no idea as I don’t watch any.

If they increase prices (at a rate higher than inflation) whilst you are in contract you are legally allowed to terminate it.

Edit: It seems they have changed their terms to specifically address this so you may well have signed away your normal rights...

In your minimum term, Sky TV prices may increase once every 12 months by up to 10%. These limits do not apply to other Sky services.

Cancelled mine last week - our dish got blown out of alignment about 3 months ago and we never bothered getting it fixed. We've got digital TV, iPlayer etc, Netflix, Prime. We're not short of stuff to watch, and £50 per month was a little steep for a service we didn't miss.

Yes but you need an Internet connection for that. We have been paying £42 for unlimited fibre, tv and unlimited telephone. Most fibre broadband is a similar price alone

Good spot, but to clarify...

NB It only relates to TV subs, which aren’t regulated.

They can’t increase your phone and broadband without you having the option to walk. So if you have a combined bill, don’t think you are locked in following a rise. It only applies to the TV portion.

I'm on 64mbps for £16 a month.

I have Freesat for most things - I paid for new receiver folder @£30 when I moved in and a Gumtree special Freesat box @£50. 6 years ago.

As above, we just circulate around some of the streaming services. Mrs_oab just got a year free Apple TV wth her phone.

Well, you are just moving your money around based on the Service you prefer to receive from whomever delivers that service.  Don't be blind to that.

Love racism hate IPTV – at least we know whats acceptable on the forum
you can't really expect a content provider to tolerate the promotion of pirated content 🙄
The irony is it's available free anyway if you know where to look - so anyone actually paying for pirate services is a total mug.

Except I can access loads of streaming services - Netflix, Amazon, Disney, NowTV, etc, even Sky Movies - for less spend than I used to pay for my Sky package. And that is a LOT more variety/content.

Yep, finally binned Sky after about ten years, from the realisation that paying £35 a month to mainly watch the BBC was a bit dumb... We'll Freesat and occasionally NowTV for Sky Atlantic stuff, plus Netflix and Print.

Sorry, not to be pedantic or to defend sky but, thats only the service delivery.  You do need to add Broadband/fibre, potentially a phone connection etc to your Netflix etc cost to get a true picture.

After that if its still cheaper then why not...

@Kryton if you can be bothered to chase the broadband deals & sign up with someone else every 12-18 months you can get fibre for ~£20 pm, definitely cheaper than having Sky AND Netflix, Prime, etc!!
