I know the signs of having a stroke, but do they all appear at the same time? Can you for instance have 2 of the signs as opposed to all of them?
Waiting for the doctor to ring back is a joke.
From the advert on FAST this morning then yes, and you need to act fast
IANAD
Phone 999 now according to that link
If you haven't rung 999 as advised above. please do so right now.
Better to be slightly embarrassed at being wrong than sitting drooling slumped in your chair wishing you had.
(I hope you're not still online, but...)
^ that. All that.
NOW. PLEASE
Paramedic with her now, waiting for ambulance. Apparently ambulance needed urgently when he called the dispatch unit was an understatement.
Best of luck mr Gnusmac.
yep hope it's nothing!
Sorry for the earlier question, i was trying to convince myself that was what i had to do. I did know, just didn't want to waste anybodies time.
Ambulance just gone, now for the waiting game. All i know at the moment is, she has a very high temperature, very low oxygen intake and heart beating like the clappers. Don't understand the other numbers so can't comment on what they mean.
Thankyou all again. I will start a nice thread one day, not just ones full of doom and gloom.
Best of luck hope all is well.
Always 999 if you suspect a stroke.
You can have all the symptoms or none of them and anywhere in between.
Sounds like an infection hope she recovers well.
Well done, i called 999 for my mother and the key words seemed to be breathlessness and lightheadedness. Ambo came, kept her in for 24 hrs for observation.
All was good in the end, i think she liked the attention from all the doctors. Better to be safe.
As Drac said, it sounds like an infection.
Don't ever worry about "wasting my time" , if you are genuinely concerned about someone a call doesn't hurt anybody.
P A Ramedic.
My wife had a minor stroke a few years back. She felt ok but her speech came out garbled and she lost one side of her vision - a sharp line down the centre of her vision and one side was completely black.
By the time she had got to the hospital (via an ambulance and 999 call) the symptoms were going and completely gone by the time I got there. No lasting negative after effects thankfully.
Hope she’s ok.
Jeez... All the best to you all
As above, 999 and don’t **** about (for anyone else reading this who may find themselves in same situation in future)
gnusmas - hope all goes well

TIA - transient ischaemic attack. My Dad has had a couple of these. Should be treated the same as a full stroke as there's no way of knowing. The cause is much the same, a blockage somewhere, just it's temporary and more easily or fully recoverable vs a full stroke which might not be or could even be fatal.
Just had a phone call from the nurse at a&e. They wanted a background so they know what they are dealing with.
When they were putting Mrs G on the monitors, she apparently opened her eyes and told them she is going home and then went back to sleep again.
Don't know anything else yet but she is in the best place. Thankyou all again, really appreciate it.
Hugs to you and family gnusmas
Bloody Hell buddy. Hope the wife is ok. Big hug dude. Thinking of you..
All the best fella...we are all hoping for the best...
Phew!
Best wishes and good luck.
best wishes to you both, early treatment does work, never feel guilty about phoneing 999,thats what its there for.
Yep act fast took 40 mins for ambulance then couldn't scan the old man he recovers quite quick but had a few more strokes they couldn't give him any blood thinning meds because of no scan they didn't know if stroke or bleed on brain. Act FAST.
Just spoken to a&e (finally) and she is pretty much the same. Not very alert, just about able to give one word answers. The medical doctors were with her trying to assess what medication she needs. They are giving her fluids and a nebuliser too.
Have to call later to see how things are progressing.
Went through this with my dad a few weeks ago and my mum a couple of years ago. Recovery times and patterns for both were massively different. Mum made a complete recovery in a matter of a few months to the point where you'd never know she ever had anything wrong. Dad's recovery is a little slower but his mental attitude is amazing.
Best of luck, I hope that the recovery is a rapid as possible.
Healing wishes for your wife Gnusmas, and for you too as I can't imagine how difficult it is to deal with after all the other stuff. You've got kids as well if I remember correctly?
:manhug:
Best wishes, Gnusmas. I can only imagine what it must be like for you. Please remember that we're here for you. Seriously.
Love to you all.
Brains are amazing. With help, they can learn to reprogram themselves to an unbelievable extent.
The possibilities can be almost limitless.
Thoughts with you fella.
Good luck to you both
oh man.
Best of luck to you and the family.
Stevet1 - yes, 4 kids 14, 9, 5 and 3. All of this that happened yesterday was also our youngest ones 3rd birthday.
Really felt for him, trying to show mummy what presents he had and getting no response. I think this is what made me decide in the end to ring the ambulance, shortly after asking on here for advice to make sure it was not a waste of anyones time. Had to close the door in the end and let them all play with his new presents in a different room while i sorted out the ambulance etc.
Still no change according to the nurse i spoke to. She is still in a&e. Kids are asking when are we going to see her, can't take them if she is still unresponsive. Will be ringing again tonight, hopefully things will change soon.
Thankyou all for your well wishes, kind words and manhugs. Sorry to offload yet again, don't mean to burden you all with my crap. Haven't got anyone else to talk to.
Thoughts are with you and the family.
All the best to you all. Make sure there's some real life help/ear for you too. As SaxonRider says we're here too.
gnusmas, I can't do anything practical but that won't stop me asking.
Have you enough help with kids / shopping / life outside of visiting mrs_g?
Matt - honestly, no. Only me here. Just plodding along the best i can. Her family are the other side of the country and my mum has had another relapse with her ms.
Haven't been to see her yet, she is still unresponsive and sleeping loads apparently. Will probably have a walk over to the hospital tomorrow with the little one while the others are in school. Waiting for motability to come back to me as the car we have through them broke down last week. It never rains here, or pours. Only torrential thunderstorms. I read back through the threads i have created on occassion, i don't think you could make this crap up.
As ever, my only sanity is here. And i really hope to not alienate myself with all this bad news. Sorry.
Hey gnusmas. What part of the UK are you in? If you're anywhere from Bristol to Swansea, the Saxon household will do anything it can.
Saxonrider - thanks for the offer, really appreciate it. No need to go out of your way though, like the previous times i only needed a rant. Most importantly the kids are taken care of as is Mrs G. My time will come at some point.
I live in Carmarthen btw.
Unfortunately I don't know anyone that way.
Anyone able to help - even if it's cooking a meal and taking it round or similar...
Spoke to a nurse this morning, she has been moved from a&e to cdu. She is being treated for a severe chest infection by iv antibiotics.
There is still no change unfortunately, still unconscious all the time. They can't work out what else is wrong at the moment so still playing a waiting game.
Gnusmas, don't feel like your posts or need to reach out will ever alienate you or feel like a burden to anyone here. just look at the posts of support and well wishes. while there's nothing we can do with regards to Mrs G you can bet that you will have a queue lining up to help you where possible.
as per Saxon and Matt AOB have offered, if you need transport, a chat, support at home just say so. there's no shame in putting it out there and if anyone can help ease your burden it's all for the greater good.
All the best of luck to you and your family during this worrying time
Anthony
From my experiences you are still in "early days" yet. Try and focus on keeping things as normal as possible for the children and importantly, look after yourself.
Hey big_g, how's it going?
Coyote - definitely early days. As i mentioned before, kids are being looked after and Mrs G is in the right place. My time will come.
Matt - thanks for asking. Not long come back from the hospital. Bit of an update. She has pneumonia, an unknown strain of flu and level 2 lung failure. Before being allowed into her room we had to put on gloves, apron and face mask.
There is more but they need to treat these first before they can do other tests to determine the full diagnosis.
Keep in their Gnumas and take it those offers of support and help, you being rested, supported and looked after means you can do the same for your family. Thinking of you all.
Thinking of you all.
