I've never really heard anyone in Scotland refer to fish n chips, very much a fish supper.
And it's usually haddock, which IMO has a wee bit more flavour than Cod.
When visiting parents in Brizzle , I get the kids cod bites and chips. 4 really good sized gougons of cod and a bag full of chips .
With a bonus cup drink and a lolly for the princely sun of £3.80
It’s more than enough for an adult , let alone a kid
If you are confused, think of the poor Scots trying to order in an English chippy…
Or the poor guy in the chippy in Ft William, when a Wiganer asked for "Babbies yeds and pea-wet"
So I’m the only one that didn’t know deep fried pizza is a thing?

Just wait until you find out about a deep fried mars bar.
Some chippys near me will deep fry anything, I bet if you asked for them to batter your children they would.
Englandshire don't seem to do special fish either.
As for weird local ways, when in Yorkshire (East Ayton to be precise) they asked if I wanted scraps with my supper. After a lengthy discussion about what a supper was and why the menu in Scotland is much more comprehensive I tried the scraps and was underwhelmed.
Scraps are rank.
Scraps are rank.
They're the bits we throw away. And folk have a cheek to slag us off for what we eat.
deep fried mars bar.
The best thing to do with those tasteless little mini-Mars Bars and Snickers you get in a tub of Celebrations.
This was discovered one Christmas when we had some left-over batter from having a go at doing a tempura prawn starter.
'Tempura battered Mars Bar' 🙂 does that make it sufficiently STW / middle-class?
Does the price of the fish get higher the further you are from the coast?
What, like in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Although fish ought to be bountiful, you may struggle to find a chippy.
Bloody hell Corbridge. Takeaway curry for five people was over eighty quid !!!!
Admittedly we bought too much and have nans and a tiny bit of curry left today, but still… £84.
That's only a little less than I'd expect to pay for our family of 5 to eat sitting in a decent local Indian, including a drink or two. Was it worth it?
