I just use a plain unscented bar of soap. If I use shower gel it feels like I need another wash afterwards as it leaves a greasy residue.

That’s exactly the feeling I get when using any kind of soap. I worked in s soap factory for a while in my youth. Put me off using soap for good.

Looking forward to next weeks installment of the life of Kryton* – how do y’all wipe yer arse/clean yer boaby.

Oh don't worry, I've got many more personal habits which although I've obviously lived a sheltered life I'm convinced are not limited to me.  No advice needed mind, but on this shower gel issue after 40 or so years of thankfully not experiencing another man in a shower I've come to the conclusion I'm not alone so felt I should share my doubt.

I must admit, two pages was beyond my initial expectations 😀

@ hedley thanks, your wife must be using the cold process method with lye. Proper soap! One of these days I'll have a go, bit nervous to be honest.

Yes, I remember now, that's what it's called. Cold process. I really should spend more time listening to her.

I don't think it's that difficult. Seem to remember you can't get water in it or something but apart from that it goes ok. It's certainly a good cheap way of making loads of soap and doesn't take long to "cure" before you can use it and we've never had any issues with burning skin or anything.

Only thing to watch is the process of making it does denature the scent and colour so you end up with grey poorly scented soap unless you put loads in or something.

From the shitty soap factory (If it’s still there) John Drury. Mmmm animal fat, caustic soda and perfume. Sweet memories

This requires further explanation. In what context are you using the soap for births and funerals?

Thanks hedley sounds as though practice makes perfect! Presumably your wife uses a dedicated large pan and a gizmo for cutting? How much at a time does she make and where's best to store it?

From the shitty soap factory

Every day is a school day, I never appreciated there was a market for bars pre-impregnated by cling-ons.

There are many specialist niche soaps.

My favourite is the one for motorists to wash their testicles.

Carbolic

Pah, my wife makes our soap using rendered fat from our own home killed organic cattle, a caustic soda lye, artisan coffee grounds or sometimes soot as an exfoliate, and flowers from the garden for scent. Not sure if it would win any prizes, but works fine and cost almost nothing to make.

Got about 10 kilos of the stuff so may well last my lifetime 🙂

@Brant - the name on the PX page for the soap is great, as it repeats the same Ltd. company name in Finnish then Swedish... something like ‘genuine Vaasan (a city in Finland) soap Ltd.’

Chandrika sandalwood ayurvedic soap from my local health food shop does me fine from hair to feet, costs less than £2 a bar and is free of all the usual nasty shite that you get in shower gels, lasts for ages and doesn't dry out your skin or strip it of essential oils.

Excessively perfumed shower gels are for sweaty teenage boys with jock itch.

I use the handmade soap from the Paper Street Soap Co. If you have a problem with it, I recommend keeping it to yourself though. Paper st

Using shit might actually improve the quality of 99% of soaps out there.

I am starting to think Kryton is becoming Kryton from Red Dwarf in some weird life 'imitating fiction' cross over
