Tropical preferred, any welcome. Just thinking of getting a natural 'aquascape' type tank to fit into my bookcase (my Brother in law has experience of building custom tanks) not sure yet.

Hid you're interested were about to put our tank up for sale. Love it, but total gutting of house has meant time for the hobby isn't fair on the animals. Also once we move downstairs contamination will be probable. Let me know if you're interested mate, it will be a total bargain.

Freshly rescaped Rainbowfish tank. Boesmanis, kutubus and dwarfs. Also a pearl gourami and a platinum angel which I rescued.

It was previously a high-tech planned with co2, auto Doser for EI ferts, etc. Probably going to replace with buces and go for a low tech setup.

Also have a pico reef tank, but it's going through the uglies at the moment. (Bloody cyano) 😡

Any tips on cleaning them? Always like the idea of one, but the reality is a pita.

Here's my setup.

As for cleaning, my tips are: Understock, oversize filter, shrimp, strong plants, plenty of light. If you do the above then the tank can recycle most of the toxins, so cleaning is water change (30%), pump and glass cleaning. I don't vaccum the gravel. If it wasn't for low water pressure here (buckets take 10 min to fill) then cleaning would take 30mins a week.

The dribble down the back is because the tank was secondhand and the previous owner painted the rear glass with blackboard paint, which doesn't stick properly.

Noticing a lot of the heaters are at an angle, is there a reason for this?

Yes, otherwise the warm water plume heats the thermostat in the top bit and the temp is innacurate.

It does if you do it properly. 🙂

Another tip for water changes is to use a Python water changer or make your own with PVC pipe + a hose + a hozelock tap adapter

Here's mine
[img] [/img]
http://www.tropicalfishforums.co.uk/index.php/topic,158186.msg2003402.html#msg2003402

All you do is run the tap until the bubbles stop appearing in the tank (i.e. the hose is now full of water). Then disconnect from the tap and put in the garden.
The tank drains to the level of the opening in the PVC pipe (50% in that pic, i can also do 80% by swapping one pipe on it), and your lawn gets fish tank water full of nutrients.
To refill, just use your mixer tap to set the temp by feel, glug of Prime in the tank itself to dechlorinate and connect the hose back onto the tap.

Remembering of course to keep an eye on it, and stop before it overfills...

I'm going to make one of those water changers when I get a spare evening, will save a lot of messing about with buckets etc 8)

Or a Blue Acara maybe?

I'm very impressed with the world's largest Halfbeak!

Nope...to both...it's a betta fighting fish....they live in puddles and breath air...the plant does all the filteration and adds oxygen.....and being a reef keeper I also have a RO filter....so the little fella gets pure water with a pinch of minerals added during top ups and water changes
My 300litre reef tank ...also doesn't have a heater.....I've got a very warm house!!...

Looking at the pic I posted this morning prompted me to give the tank a clean ....here you go....now it's sparkling!! 😀

Sorry but no they don't, they live in slow moving streams, paddy fields etc. They sometimes get stranded smaller bodies of water (usually wide but shallow) during dry season but escape as soon as possible, hence their adaptations (jumping and air breathing).

I'm not preaching about small tank btw, I keep a pico reef (Fluval spec v) myself. 🙂

Spectabilis, did you build the tank yourself? Really nice

Went to the green machine in Wrexham yesterday some lovely tanks. I've set up a nano aquascape tank it's very murky till it clears. Will post pics when it's done

The 8footer is just a basic 12mm float glass bought tank decorated with a foam background and bits n pieces from the local river.

The other was built by me and my dad, he has a steel fab. Business.

I've got a planted nano too, I'll post pics later.
