TJ, please look at your forum posting history, especially on any thread over two pages long. Then see if you "get it".
Then, turn off your interwebz and read a nice book or something.

What I don't get is the need to ridicule that some folk seem to have. why the urge to put others down al the time?

Its a nasty attitude that I don't understand the motivation for.

Why some of you feel this need to be unpleasant in this manner is beyond me. I find it quite sad that grown men should resort to behaving like this

No ironic smile - I do not behave like this, I find the motivation of those that do incomprehensible especially when the term is often used by prolific and argumentative posters

I know I argue a lot, I know I infuriate sometimes and I do sometimes insult folk in retaliation.

I do not have this need to go around putting people down in such a childish manner

As for self-awareness - some of the posters here are so lacking in this its untrue. I am aware of how I come over sometimes, are you guys really unaware of how petty and childish this "big hitters" nonsense looks especially when used by prolific trolls?

however CFHs advice is reasonable as I can feel myself getting dragged in to a pointless debate. Leave you to it

I am supprised that you are so offended that a group of opinionated prolific posters, of which there are many, some of whome semi police the forum, are nicknamed big hitters!

Offended? takes an awful lot more than that to offend me. I just find it childish and sad and I don't understand the motivations behind it.

TJ. Let it lie. You cannot argue people into agreeing with you. I know, I've tried repeatedly. . People will think what they think of you and others. Arguing with them will not change their minds, not arguing might just.

Anyway, people here are lightweights. I got involved in an argument on another forum where someone posted over 100 times in one thread on the merits of red string as an avalanche safety measure, despite clear proof he was wrong.

Maybe some people feel that nothing they say can get past certain individuals without some form of critique or attempts to warp the conversation to the agenda of the more prolific, prejudiced and opinionated forum members.

Maybe hitting back is the only way they can gauge and rally the support of 'normal' forumites. You know, people for whom this is a place to have a laugh and connect with like minded souls, people who don't need the validation they percieve in bullying less determined contributors.

I was going to write a very dramatic 'you know who you are' but in truth, you really have no ****ing idea.

Why don't you set an example by doing just that, then?

Why some of you get so worked up by TJ? You Silly Billies.

As for the abusive comments and ad hominem attacks on TJ; it's cos most of you aren't capable of engaging in and debate with him at a sufficiently intellectual level, and thus end up feeling somewhat inadequate so you resort to nastiness in order to try to feel better about yourself by putting someone else down. Pathetic. Why not just disagree? Why all the snidey comments and cowardly tagging? Is that really the best you can do? Sadly, for some of you, I fear it probably is.

TBH most of those on this thread having a pop at TJ are guilty of silliness and nonsense themselves. At least TJ has some modicum of self-awareness. A quality many of youse would do well to acquire...

And before you start I'm right and you're rong and that's the end of it so shut up.

THREAD CLOSED.

Probably should walk away, but...

*IF* you are going to state that people are *WRONG*, for example:

- People who don't believe taxing petrol is the *ONLY* solution
- How about people who have faith in God
- People who dare to believe that if you ride on the roads then you should follow the rules of the road

*IF* you are going to rant on without conceding that another's point of view may be valid then of course you are going to wind people up. The vast majority of posters, even the other "Big Hitters" ๐Ÿ™„ , will occasionally admit that a contrasting opinion may have value. There is onle one who is always right.

You see coyote - I have never said any of those things that you accuse me of. Look on the petrol thread and try to find me saying people are wrong and only I am right and taxing petrol is the only solution. I asked for others to provide their solutions and was quite prepared to listen and debated with those who did.

I often admit to error and that other points of view have validity

It's a combination of envy and spite. But accidentally and revealingly humourous. I instinctively like people with a lot to say, it makes a change from the timid and boring.

Barnsley mitch - its all about your point of view - the posts I find patronising and offensive you will not.

I thought I had made it clear I was trolling at least in part but I find ALL religious views contemptible, ridiculous and offensive. If you express them you will find the piss taken from you.

I think there is no place for religion in the 21st century. The whole practice of religion is absolutely abhorrent to me. So keep quiet about it or face the ridicule

Yup, that's tolerance right there. If your views differ from mine I will ridicule you till you shut up.

Hasn't it? Please tell me it has. This is a knowing, and willfully self-parodying ironic send up, isn't it?

To be fair to TJ...

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/jesus-christ/page/2#post-1861927

I'll agree that it's not a very nice post and unsuprisingly it does show him to be intolerant of other views but read the thread as it goes on and IMO, it makes TJ's position clearer and rather more akin to the position taken in any kind of political debate by many who'll no doubt line up with the lynch mob at this point - eg if you don't agree with my view on X then you are scum/stupid/etc - eg lazy demonising of people.

In summary, it's poor behaviour but no worse than the usual pathetic name calling that goes on in most of the politial threads. That intolerance is what drags the forum down and for me at least is what the 'big hitters' thing is all about.

nowt wrong with TJs view on religion- have you seen what Whoppit writes? Should we just let the religious preach an intolerant messages about gays, condom use etc and yet we cant say your invisible sky fairy account is a load of nonesense and then mock them.
Might have worded a bit nicer tbh
