It seems that as well as their jeans being smaller, their genes are fewer!

We've known there was something missing for a long time....

Hmm doesn't mention the other well known fact..

Which is, if all the world males were lined up with their erect penises on their heads, they'd all be the same height.

Indeed, those extra genes are just filler - slugs, snails and puppy dog tails!

height perception is an odd thing. i'm 6'1" but really don't feel that I'm tall. apart from when i'm standing beside a shortarse.

And conversely, I don't feel 'short', even when standing next to a beanpole. 🙂

I just revel in the fact that I'm far more ergonomic and environmentally friendly. 😀

Yeti; you're about 5'8" or so, no?

5'10" is average UK male height.

Looking at it the other way then that suggests that tall people have extra genes. I'm just trying to work out which genes they are.

is it the 'like basketball' gene or the 'walk funny' gene?

No - tall = normal and short = lacking. You can't interpret it as lacking = normal 😕

Short people are obviously more highly evolved, much more at home in our modern, crowded society.

A 'Tall tax' would punish those who thoughtlessly increase consumption of natural resources.

If anyone would care to make a donation to The Campaign for Lower Urinals, please contact me.
When I say were desparate for funds, we really mean it.

Hmm - remind me not to go to stokholm then!

Im short for a bloke too (5 8" ish) so while not midget i am shorter than average, never had a 'problem' with it mind...

When i was a shop lakkie i used to enjoy selling cheap bikes to blokes my height or shorter who insisted on getting a 20" frame despite me attempting to sell them a 17" that fit them - they said the 17" is a 'babbies' (get the accent?) bike while proceeding to perch their friend on the top-tube while on tippie toes.

Well i can accept i am genetically inferior to the average 6foot + chav around here if it means i am not lumped with the IQ of a cretin. (not saying tall people are dumb but surely its difficult getting enough blood up there to the old thinking box 😉 )

According to John Cleese noboy over 5'8" ever caused a problem. It's always the short ones Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Paul Daniels.

But I was listening to R4 earlier on something completely different. But a bloke said in teenage boys testerone gives the teenage boys jody the signal it needs to stop growing. The lack of testosterone made the body grow, in some cases, quite bizzarely.
Maybe tall people are late developers? Perhaps low in testosterone? I believe testosterone is crucial in making a man "masculine".
Perhaps tall people aren't as manly as proper sized people?

Just wonderin like 😉 8)

Elmo dunno if testosterone in the uterus is the same but I've got long ring fingers so mucho testosterone, however I'm not aggressive so maybe it's all just bollocks.

Edit hitler (and Napoleon i think) weren't short dunno bout the others

I'm, a not exactly towering, 5'7" and I have more genes than I can count. Being diminutive has it's upsides anyhoo. Watching you behemoths attempt human origami on an Easyjet flight for one. Also, science has conclusively proved big bikes look rubbish.

My ring fingers longer than my index finger too, only just though, actually they're probably about the same! Does that mean I look like a girl?! 😕 😆

And I'm not in a posistion to comment on the aggression, your honour.

It was an old John Cleese line I heard him re-telling the other day, didn't really bother checking the finer details

This is like a soap opera isn't it where two characters (DD and TooTall) initially seem to hate eachother but over time you realise that it's not that simple and eventually an unlikely circumstance occurs to force them to spend some time together. They then realise that they're not really so different and fall madly in love.

STW's first [s]wedding[/s] Civil Partnership I reckon (with apologies to MrsDD and MrsTooTall).

Certainly seems that the big fellas are the angrier on this thread. Mind you, I found that at school - never any discussion with the big lads - they were always a bit on the dull side - one or two interchanges - then a height-based pejorative. And then...RUN FOR IT!!!

Nope. Velma did the majority of the unmasking and she was a shortarse come to think of it too. The other two clowns spent most of the time looking for club sandwiches and hiding in barrels.

Another fabulous piece of science news into tabloid news by grabbing a headline. This doesn't mean that people are "missing genes" they are missing very small parts of the bits of DNA between genes (genes are ~1% of DNA). We all have variation in this 99% of our DNA.

Never let the facts stand in the way of a good headline!

Amen to that. The 'graph really ought to do what the Times did and print itself as a tabloid. The fold in the middle really fools a lot of people.

Another member of the short and bitter camp then derek?

Not especially either, short or bitter, just a joke someone once used for defensive irony, it used to be one of my 'things' of all the isms that get defended by PC, short is one you can't help like skin colour, whereas say sexual orientation can be described as a lifestyle choice, given even heterosexual can choose to abstain.

Why back in the day you could be gay and be a copper but folk under 5.6" couldn't. Can you get in the guards if you're under a certain height, my kid couldn't get to ride on certain rides at things when she was much older than some of the kids going on I recall being a tad upset about, although she took it in her stride, what would have happened if they'd stopped her because she was black?

You don't get banned or risk court or legal action for prejudice against short folk, why is there not a TV thing about to come out concerning short folk..

So, not bitter but in terms of FairPlay which I do like to see, short folk do sometimes come up short, excuse the pun, totally intended.

So = when do we start with the lanky buggers tax? they take up more than their fair of space, use more than their fair share of resources and then moan that things are too small for 'em. Cut 'em off and the knees I say.

Lots of people on here slag of fatties - are lanky buggers any better?

I think a tax by height is a damn good idea. everyone gets a personal allowance of 5'10" and you get taxed for every inch over that. after all no one needs to be more than 5'10"

we could even have rebates for the really short - or we could set up a trade in height points

Bloke on the canal, long feller he was, proper gangly, hit his head on a scaffold pole. 😆

Had to laugh, remembering this thread. And I woon't mind, but there was a ruddy great sign above it!

BONG!

😆

Luckily he was wearing a helmet or it cooduv bin nasty. 😐

Interesting that those who seem to be shouting loudest about being 'superior' to others are the long people. Indeed, the thread was started by someone who seems to think his height is actually excessive. 🙁

Mind you there are some very tall people who seem to still have small man syndrome so go figure

What is this 'small man syndrome' of which you speak?

Just that I can't find and info on it in any texts on psychology, and it does not in any way seem to be recognised as a mental condition.

The most violent and aggressive people I've ever met have all bin over 6'. Go figure, eh? 😕

Seems to me that long people feel somewhat threatened by shorter folk, well, if this thread's anything to go by. Otherwise why the need to feel superior?
